Trijicon HD Night Sight Question?

I have a M&P 9 with Trijicon HD's. At the range I found that aligning the centers of the front and rear viles caused me to hit the target low. I had to align the bottom of the front vile with the top of the rear viles. This was not the case with the factory sights.

Is it just me, or did any of you who switched from factory sights to Trijicon HD Night Sights have a similar experience?

Do I really want a optical illusion when sighting my gun?
I may be scratching them off my Shield/night sight list.

This is an eye opening post. Thanks.

I think they are better sights out there, the trijicons are small and inferior in the sunlight in my opinion, they are also overpriced. If you do not have young eyes, you'll find yourself chasing the sights and therefore, accuracy. Dawson Precision makes better night sights for less money, JMO.

Get some Tru Glo TFO sights they are great in all light conditions although costly and fragile I have heard of some that were able to use a punch to remove and install them but I would use a sight pusher like the MGW M&P sight tool or a Gunsmith!

I have the Truglo TFO's on my XDm .45. Nice sights, but I am not sure I want them on my Shield. I keep going back to the Big Dot idea but I struggle with that because we all want to shoot small groups at the range.

dont bother aligning the viles, align the uppermost portion of the sight post

I have no first hand experience with the tru glo TFO's, they def look cool, look amazing in broad daylight & dark conditions, however the knock on them is they're supposed to be not so good in that in between indoor lighting condition. I think It would behoove tru glo to make the next gen of TFO's with white surrounding the fiber-optic/tritium tubes, then you'd get all around perfect sights, but IMO i think Trijicon HD & big dots are currently better options, but YMMV.

^^^ this, OP, keep in mind you're night looking at a 2-D image, you're looking at a 3-D image and this creates the optical illusion I mentioned earlier, common on most sites. Once you understand this, you'll be a tack driver with your sights. But for now, lining the tops of the sites up will correct shooting low & demonstrate to you that your sights are not defective.
