I came across my first model 66-4 about 6 months ago. Not being that big of a snub nose enthusiast I had no idea how impressed I would be once I had one in hand. I stumbled onto the -4 on GA for $500 and didn't recognize what a good deal it was until I got into adding more 66's to my collection. The -2 and -3 cost me the exact same amount on GB, $600 after looking and bookmarking on a weekly basis. I feel very fortunate to have found these 3 M66's in as good a condition as they are in. After cleaning them I dressed them up with Hogue monogrips, tulip wood on the -2, cocobolo on the -3 and bubinga Ahrends on the -4. the fit of both are excellent but the Ahrends wins for the feel and would probably be on all three had they had what I wanted but one man can only do so much and I truly admire Kim Ahrends work.
In the short time I have been searching out these M66's I an in awe of the growing demand leading to the rapid price increase I have experienced. The last bookmark for a M66-3 95% plus finish, no box or papers closed last night for $800, and that is not unusual of late. I am mostly a online buyer, not out of choice so these prices I know don't reflect a regional factor and with the associated online cost and grips I am in the hole a little but am confident in a few years time I will be happy I made the investment in these truly beautiful "k" frames. Cheers
This is the last M66 I followed.http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=483350954
