As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, and then Christmas, remember that we still have troops deployed.
If you can, give a few bucks to the USO or some other org that provides services to those who serve us. It can be a tough time for them. ;)

THANKS to all who serve and have served.
May God Bless you, and God Bless the USA!

Thanks for the reminder about our USOs and their need for our financial support.
I Googled "donate to USO"; then, made a nice contribution and the USO is sending me a flag for my support. My current flag is ready for retirement -sun bleached and hurricane winds stressed.

Growing up as an Army brat I remember my Dad going over to the barracks to find guys who had nowhere to go and inviting them to eat at our quarters. One memorable Thanksgiving at Ft. Wadsworth had him removing my bedroom door and putting it on sawhorses to make an extra table.

This was a tradition that I continued during my service. We made sure that we had lots of food, and I took a quick run through the barracks gathering up strays.

In the years I was in the service I was extremely fortune to have been able to spend every Christmas with my parents and siblings. It just worked out that I was never deployed at those times. Didn't get to do all the holidays but being home for Christmas I'll always remember.

As one that spent several Thanksgiving and Christmases in places I wasn't sure why I was there I can say first hand how lonesome it is and how special it is to have just a little something from "back home." If you can, find a way to give our men and women in uniform, wherever they are, reason to believe you care. It means so much to them.

Curiously enough one of the best Thanksgivings I had was in the Army. Somebody mentioned to the Sergeant Major that I liked to bake, and was good at it, he asked me to help the baker prepare the Thanksgiving breads and desserts. I worked 24 hours straight, got off about 0600, caught a few winks. Everybody enjoyed what I made, I felt I had really Done Something.

My first Xmas in the Corps , I was not going home . I still remember walking the 2400-0400 fire watch . I was like 'What the hell did I sign up for?) But the older I got , the easier it was . Never did get home for the Holidays . My heart goes out to the guys and gals stuck somewhere for the Holidays . That's why I still give to the USO , I've been there , and it wasn't fun .

I respect this guy so very much!

I remember the USO, at the airports, and there USO shows specially with King of Christmas tour Bob Hope going out each year with band of performers giving a little of home to the deployed members of our Armed Forces.
There will be never another Bob Hope, and I always support the USO cause there for us!
