I've shot various 460 mag loads including 14.5 gr Trailboss with 250 XTP, to full pressure loads using H110 and 240 & 300 gr XTP mag.

I have also shot 40-50 rounds using 5744 and 300 gr GDHP. I have been using the 5744 for reduced pressure loads. The loads chart starts at 26gr 5744 and goes to 38 gr. At 30 grains (1400 fps) I am reasonably accurate. Today, I shot 8 at 3" with 2 more shots that took the pattern to 4" at 50 yards.

The problem is, is that I am pulling apart about a 1/3rd of my cases. They all come apart at exactly the same place about 1/2" above the base. I shot a few at 34 gr of 5744 and all the cases either came apart or all were cracked half way around at the exact same 1/2" line.

Has this happened to anybody else?

I have not seen that at all. I have a few 460 Mag cases that I have reloaded 10 times already.

90% of my loads are with H 110 powder and I would venture to say on the middle range in the load data.

Are your primers flattened or unusual?

They are less flattened than the full pressure H110 loads. The recoil is also much less.

Three or so months ago, I posted pics of same cases. The though then was that I was shooting the 5744 rounds righ after shooting 45 colt rounds.

Since the shooting the 45 colt loads, I polished all carbon traces from my charge holes and have only shot 460 cases.

Hi. The only time I've had separations with straight wall cases was because of excessive headspace, that was with a 44 Mag contender barrel. It was replaced. I have a 460, no problems with it.

Maybe the 5744 powder is giving you a quick spick pressure and causing the problem you are having. I have shot some 44 Mag with HS 7 powder which is not made any longer, and the recoil is less then my H 110 loads. But the primers in my 44 Mag cases are smashed and flattened with the HS 7 loads. I thought the H 110 loads would of flattened the primers being I have a lot more felt recoil. Just a thought.

Happened to me once with supposedly reduced loads using 2400 and 250 grn XTPs. Haven't used it since and have never had it occur again. I have since had good luck with Lil Gun at moderate load levels and with my full blown hunting loads along with H110.

Thanks for the photo. That's exactly how mine looked. I've been using LRM primers. IF (big if) I could find some standard LR primers I'd like to give that a try. Does anybody have 10-12 that I could try. I'd be glad to swap a few LRM's for some STD LR primers.

For the 300 grainers, the Hodgdon load recipes for Lil Gun are way too hot for my X-Frame. They were also way to hot for my sons T.C. rifle in .460. They also don't list a Lil' Gun load for the 240s. The recipes outta the Hornady book work better for me.

These loads are within the boundaries of both Lyman and Hornady books and the 240 and 300 recipes are loads just below "sticky extraction" for my revolver. I suggest you verify them from other references before using.

I also shoot this load with WLRM primers, but reduce the load by .5 grns.

250 grn. XTPs
39.5 grns. Lil' Gun
WLR primer

300 grn. XTP-Mags
34 grns. of Lil' Gun
