Anyone tried them on a full size M&P? I was out shooting this evening and noticed as the sun was going down I started having a hard time seeing the original white dots. Or have y'all tried painting the dots a different color? If I was to install the tru Glo's will they fit in my holster good without damaging them?

Sorry for the newbie questions. I'm new to the site and handguns

Which sights? The night sights (tritium) that glow in the dark or the combination fiber optic / tritium that glow in the dark and in bright light?

Tritium only won't be any better than white dots during the day and actually might be harder to pick up. Depending on how dark it gets, they might go from irrelevant to being the only way you'll be able to see your sights without a light.

The fiber optic ones will be dramatically better during the day. However, there are numerous complaints about breaking the fiber optic rods. This isn't necessarily a brand-specific problem. I've lost a FO or two during shooting competitions and hard use, but it's not common enough for me to not want to use them in the future.

Painting the dots can be a cheap fix, but making them some sort of day-glo color is really the only way to improve upon white dots for most shooting conditions, and that will probably only improve it marginally. However, since this is cheap and quick, it might be worth a try before spending $$ on aftermarket sights if you're on a budget.

Sorry to not be specific. The fiber optic would be the upgrades I'd be looking at. I put them on my turkey gun this year and can't believe I ever shot a bird without them

I have them on the front only of several of my pistols, and have come to prefer that setup. I find FOs front and rear to be distracting. Usually htever you get will, come with red and green light pipes, so,you can experiment withnthem. I like the red myself.

Good luck!

I have the Truglo TFO titanium fiber optic green/green night sights that are bright during the day and night. I have these both on my Glock 23, Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry || and Colt Defender. I love these sights well built and no complaints.

I also find FO rears to be a bit distracting for fast shooting, but I think it helps line things up for accurate shots when using a more target-focused sighting technique. In general, if you're just looking for something brighter, they work. However, when it starts to get dark, they aren't going to be all that bright either since they rely on ambient light to glow... but since you're familiar with them on your other firearm(s), you probably have a good idea what they are like and when they will and will not work. A lot of FO sights will allow user-replacement of the FO rods. Many do not... I have heard people complain that the TFO and TFX sights do not. Not sure about it, but it's something to look in to since losing or breaking FO rods is not uncommon and it would be a PITA to have to send them back to the manufacturer for repair.

Check out the Dawson Precision fiber optic sights. Very nice products and super service.

Hi Canamkayaker:

Welcome to the Forum. Not a full sized M&P, but I added a set of Truglo TFO sights to my M&P 40c a few years ago, and I am very happy with them. The night sights are not as bright as others I have on other handguns, but in a way, this is better as they are not as distracting at night or in low light situations. The fiber optics are great in daylight or normal light situations. By the way, I was going to try and install the sights myself, and changed my mind as soon as I discovered how tightly fitted the stock sights were in the slide. Instead, I took the slide to the local GT Distributors, and they installed the new sights for $20.00. I had the slide back in 2 days. If you are a LEO, I believe you can call ahead and set up an appointment, and they will do the installation while you wait. I will try to add photos of my 40c with the TFO sights later.

Good luck,

Dave

have 2 sets of the TFX's, not on Smith & Wesson, on Ruger LC9's. They are impressive and have tightened up my targets substantially. I am very satisfied.

I have the TFO's on both my full size MP's. I really like them. They are great for daytime and night shooting. If I were buying today I would get the TFX version. I have ruined 2 sets of the the regular TFO's I had on other guns with spray gun cleaner. I replaced them with the TFX version. The TFX's are supposed to be chemical resistant and do appear to be of better construction then the TFO's. They can be found for around $100 deliverer online.

I added the Tru-Glo TFO's to both my M&P 9 Full Size and to my M&P Shield 9 and they are really great! The sights are nice and bright both day & night. My eyes are not what they used to be and they really help improve my sight acquisition. They have NO effect fitting into any of my holsters either. You will really like them if you choose to go with the TFO's.

Of all the setups I've run against the clock, a fiox front and notch rear has been a consistent winner across multiple models of handguns.
My carry guns have lasers, some have tritium fronts but all in all I will never pay for tritium again. It's a slim to nill chance you'll have a proper sight picture, and a weapon light to identify your target is much more crucial than tritium to identify your sights.

I've done a fair amount of low-light, no-light shooting. There were quite a number of times when the target was illuminated enough for ID purposes, but the sights were still basically invisible.

Note that there are a couple of versions of fiber optic sights from Truglo.
The "TFO"'s have tritium and FO. ( THE "T" standing for Tritium. The "Bright Sight" model do not. Personally, I've had five sets of TFO's across a range of M&P's and Glocks. (Including my FS M&P 45 house gun and 9C carry gun). None have given me a problem. All have been personal favorites as tehy shine day or night. No experience with the Bright Sights but can atest Dawson makes a nice product as well.
Dawson makes a nice

Have all green TFX on FS 9, will be replacing all sights on my handguns with these. Always visible, better than the trijicons my wife has on her P226 duty gun. You can't see those in dim light, can with TFX
