A few days ago started my truck and took off. Made it about 200 yards and heard some strange noises, followed by the steering getting almost impossible to use, followed by the battery trouble light going off.
Realize at the minimum a belt had broke or come off the pulley. Very difficult but I turned my long cab 4x4 truck around and got it back up my driveway.
Opened hood and the belt was stretched out and very visibly ripped and not moving. Shut off the engine and did some trouble shooting. Very tight and compact but by using my hand to feel around a I discovered a pulley would not turn. AH a sized pulley now that means it will all be covered by my extended warranty. Kind of glad it happened now as I still have about 2 months left om the extended warranty. (truck is a 16 with 22,000 on it)
Called the 800 number and if it was determined to be a warranty issue the tow to the dealers was paid for. So made arrangements to have the truck picked up Monday morning and taken to dealership which is about 30 miles away. That went well and I went into the shop office to see about getting her fixed up Talked to this younger service advisor and clearly explained what the trouble was. He types up a paper and says sign here please. All it said on the paper was customers states belt broke. I got a bit POed and said there was a reason I told you what happened so I do not get blamed for this problem, PLEASE redo the paper and put on it what I told you. If I had to pay it would be about a $1,000 so I want it wrote up right!
For the record I have been a gear head since I was about 12-13 and picked up some knowledge in those 60+years. Hell I was working on cars long before that service writer was a gleam in his fathers eye
Got my new statement and left. Went back this morning and picked up my truck and took it home, at this time it appears they did a good job as all is well. Time will tell!
