A few days ago started my truck and took off. Made it about 200 yards and heard some strange noises, followed by the steering getting almost impossible to use, followed by the battery trouble light going off.

Realize at the minimum a belt had broke or come off the pulley. Very difficult but I turned my long cab 4x4 truck around and got it back up my driveway.

Opened hood and the belt was stretched out and very visibly ripped and not moving. Shut off the engine and did some trouble shooting. Very tight and compact but by using my hand to feel around a I discovered a pulley would not turn. AH a sized pulley now that means it will all be covered by my extended warranty. Kind of glad it happened now as I still have about 2 months left om the extended warranty. (truck is a 16 with 22,000 on it)

Called the 800 number and if it was determined to be a warranty issue the tow to the dealers was paid for. So made arrangements to have the truck picked up Monday morning and taken to dealership which is about 30 miles away. That went well and I went into the shop office to see about getting her fixed up Talked to this younger service advisor and clearly explained what the trouble was. He types up a paper and says sign here please. All it said on the paper was customers states belt broke. I got a bit POed and said there was a reason I told you what happened so I do not get blamed for this problem, PLEASE redo the paper and put on it what I told you. If I had to pay it would be about a $1,000 so I want it wrote up right!

For the record I have been a gear head since I was about 12-13 and picked up some knowledge in those 60+years. Hell I was working on cars long before that service writer was a gleam in his fathers eye:D Got my new statement and left. Went back this morning and picked up my truck and took it home, at this time it appears they did a good job as all is well. Time will tell!

Sorry to here of your unfortunate circumstance.

Out of curiosity, how much does something like
that repair cost?

Thank you of sharing and advice.

It was the alternator and with the towing my number of $1,000 was pretty close. New alternator and belt + a hard place to work adds up. Second time I used the warranty and at this point I'm way ahead.:)

Pretty out of the ordinary to hear of an alternator seizing up at 22,000 miles. Did you have a manufacturers extended warranty or an independent one?

If this were a dealership then a typical repair order will have three boxes that must be entered in.
Complaint or concern
Cause
Remedy (or something similar)
For warranty work all the information must be filled in or the manufacturer might not pay.
In the end, if the service writer does his job then all the correct information will be on a permanent record.

Glad you got it fixed and have the paper work.

My extended just ended and I to my car into a gas station for an oil job.
The mech. could not get the oil filter off, even with the use of a bar.

I took the car to toyota for them to lossen the filter and had them write on the work order that no damage was done to the car in the process.

Well this was not true.......
the mech. that removed and repaced the splash shield, cross threaded two bolts.

I will be going in for a recall on my fuel pump next week..............
I will have a letter for them to sign, on spec's and any damage to my car
parts during the repair job, after the last two mess ups.

Good help is hard to find these days.

For a while I was putting 2K a month on old Blue driving around to all the Courts. From one end of the district to the other was 90 miles-throw in 10 jails and I was all over the place.

I had a problem with service writer at Ford about dash shaking with defroster fan . Was told 3 month wait in the winter with no heater fan . Got home and after researching found video about a a vent lever connector than can break and fall inside the fan . After blooding top of my hand removing the fan found the broke part , reinstalled fan and run smooth but floor vent is stuck open . Returned to Ford 3 months later for shop appointment and stupid girl had wrote up heater hose and took 20minutes showing the part to service manager. I said forget it I'll trade the truck in for a Toyota

My mother bought a new 69 Belair chevy. The parking brake did not work. I dropped her off at work and took it in for service. The tech checked it out and told me parking brake was an option we did not purchase the option. Called my dad at work he told me to leave car right where it was. When he came through the door s%%% hit the fan. The manager of service pulled a guy off whatever he was working on and told him fix the brake now.

Who made this truck that the alternator seizes at 22K miles?

Toyota Tundra. Hey anything can happen, thats why they have warranties. This is not my first rodeo with service writers. ( I watch them close) As stated before I have been a car guy forever, even working in a garage /speed shop for years and as a AA type personality I have been know not to take prisoners:D.

Like many people he took the easy way out but I was not going to get stuck with that tow charge and repair bill when it was not my fault. My physical condition kind of precludes me doing most of the auto and home projects I used to do.

Other than that the truck has been good to me. In all fairness the service manager has told me I should drive the truck more but with 3 vehicles available some get a lot of sit time. With winter approaching this 4X4 will get more driving up here in the boonies.

Sorry I did type out a response yesterday it was a manufactures X warranty . I will not buy a outside one way to much chicanery happens with those kinds. I also spend a lot of time on a couple car forums.

I must have not pushed the send button when I was in a hurry to shut down.
