I have a damaged rear sight on my original S&W 645. I contacted S&W for a replacement, emphasizing the old white outline version. They verified it was the correct one and I had it shipped.

It showed up and was the Novak style with the white dots.

I've posted here before and thought I'd try one more time to locate an original, either new or a excellent take off.

All of the well known parts outlets have not been able to come up with one.

Can anyone help?

Well....Numrich came thru on a long awaited rear sight replacement.

Can anyone advise detailed instruction on how to replace it?

Thanks in advance.

Do NOT beat on that sight with anything metal. I don't even like the brass punches.

Go to the gunsmithing forum here. There are many here than can help you.

Do a search on sight replacement in that forum before posting since you might find a bunch of threads that already cover this topic.

Good luck.

I have been searching for the answer to the same question. But to no avail. I would love to know too as I want to switch the white outline to a 2 dot rear sight.

No disrespect intended, but if you have to ask, you should let a qualified gunsmith or armorer do the job.

Anyone with some level of mechanical aptitude and the proper tools can change out a dovetailed rear sight if they feel comfortable with the job, once they have some good instructions detailing how the job is done.

BTW, If the Smiths are like the 1911's I have encountered you can only drift the sight out in one direction since the dovetail is not cut straight, but has a taper to it. Therefore it is smaller on one side.

jed1177, Do you still have your old damaged sight for your 645? If you do, would you be willing to part with it if you think it'll fit the dovetail of a 469? I'd like a little taller sight than the short one that's on it and I figure if you had one laying around we might as well recycle...

Thank you for your time.
