trying to decide which gun to take to the range - update range report

Personally I'd move in a little closer to start with, 33 plus yards is a bit to far to start with. When I get a new revolver I normally start at about 15 yards to check the sights and really don't shoot my revolvers much past 25 yards. After 25 yards it's rifle time.

I don't know anybody who can shoot 4 perfectly spaced holes in perfectly straight lines along the edges of 2 targets. Don't be so hard on yourself. Joe

They're not perfectly spaced he shot the guy in the left hip on both targets.....:D:D:D.

If I can hit the target, like a 8" paper plate from 100 ft 40+ times out of 50 I'm happy.

Not even close this time so I guess I'll be moving closer to try and fix the problem.

This was the first 6 rounds at 100 ft with my M58.
I have no idea where the first one went.

I'll figure out why I did soo lousy today and fix it. :D

I went to the range yesterday myself and the theme for the day was auto mayhem. :D I brought my SW22 Victory, my Alchemy 45 Auto 1911 and I bought my .40 BHP to try out my first reloads in .40 S&W. I only ran 20 rounds of the 40 S&W; enough to validate that it made a nice accurate load. The Victory was fun to play with at 15 yards and shot a box of 100 rounds of Win Super X, which shot accurately in that pistol. I ran 150 rounds of 230 ball I reloaded in the 1911 and as usual, the Alchemy is a lot more accurate than I am. Shooting off the bench, I could keep 3 mags in the head of a B27e target at 15 yards with no problems and no flyers. Freehand I usually have 1-2 flyers with that many mags, as the hands aren't as steady as they used to be. Old age sucks, but it beats the alternative.

Last week's trip to the range was new guns and 8 shot 357. I brought my BHP, my new to me 25-2 and my 627-5 Pro. That was a good time also. I had swapped a set of my Culina target stocks onto the 25-2 and what a difference the stock change made in the feel of the gun. The Culina stocks fit my hand so much better than the S&W targets it's not even funny.

Next time out you need to an N frame theme and see what you think of some of those unfired N frames you got, Kenny.

I can bring 4 at most, and I only own 4 - even then it is about the max I can keep track of and organized. Pretty sure before my Dad passed someone pinched an old revolver from him at the range, or he left it by mistake, no telling. All we knew is when he passed we never found it and he never sold anything.

Where did you get the picture of the 2nd crow? I'd like a first class MS. Got selected meritoriously by the last base I was on before I Retired. Turned it down because I would have to spend 5 years on a carrier.

Kenny-Most of my handgun shooting is at 15 yards or less, so I walk away feeing good about the adventure. I shoot out to 25 yards occasionally and my range has targets that will flip and dance some shoot/don't shoot scenarios. Those are fun. Handgun combat will likely take place in under 10 yards truthfully. Outside 25 yards I'll use a SBR or long gun. And I generally shoot without precision, worrying less about single hole hits and more about hitting multiple times without flyers. This one is 10 yard head shots trying for a smiley face but got a frown. The body shots were 15 yards. 9mm 1911. Pace of shots about one/second....

That's some good shooting.

I only have one auto that I shoot, an M&P .45 that I actually like a lot.

I do have a Colt 1911A1 that I have never shot don't plan to. I should probably sell it. I picked it up because it fits my hand really nice.

I have a couple N frames I doubt I'll shoot, one of them I'll never shoot.

I need to get the two I shot today figured out before I start shooting others. It really bug me how lousy I did today.

I do want to shoot my M627-2 and my M29-2.

The rear sight was messed up the first time I shot my 6" nickle M27-2 but I got that straightened out so when I get the two I shot today figured out those will most likely be the 3 N frames I shoot.

My friend gave me 48 rounds of his .44 Mag reloads to shoot. :)

I practice closer with my EDCs. I have three. Generally about 15-20 ft and I use 8" paper plates for targets.

I carry my 642-1 the vast majority of the time.
My 640-1 sometimes but not very often. It was the first gun I ever purchased.
And my M&P .45 auto in a shoulder holster when I ride my ATV.

I do need to get in some more time with my EDC revolvers.

The 100 ft is all for fun. At 25 ft, one handed, not "aiming" I had 6 for 6 body shots. Probably 1 per second with the 19-2.

Even at closer distances I am no tack driver.
