TEXAS!!!
What are the differences between a TSW & a non TSW,
say in 40?

There are at least two versions of the TSW. The first version is non-railed and says "Tactical" on the slide. This is the version I have in 9mm. The second version is railed and says "9 Tactical" or .40 or .45. The descriptions in the SCSW are different. The "Tactical" or 1st version doesn't vary much in description to the standard model it represents. My "Tactical" 3913 9mm doesn't appear to be much different from a standard 3913 except for the recessed mag well.

On the other hand the SCSW describes the ".40 Tactical", or 2nd version with the following additional attributes. "Each TSW has the frame and slide machined as a matched set with an assembly number on each half. The barrel has a loaded chamber indicator in the barrel hood visible as a small window or hole in which to view the rim of the cartridge. Each front strap is now checkered, the barrel bushing is fixed and the frame and slide are fitted with oversize frame rails." I don't know if these same things apply to the 1st version of the TSW. Mine doesn't have the loaded chamber indicator.

Others will likely chime in with more knowledge than I have. I hope this helps.

Generally it is the accessory rail on the Tactical Smith & Wesson. There may be other minor differences in different models. One such difference is black hardware (decocking lever and slide stop/release lever) on the frame and slide of some models.

Good info guys & thanks. I believe the 40 I'm looking at
is the first version, as it has no accessory rail & appears
to be identical to yours, ihump.

I prefer the 1st version (gen?) TSW for the cleaner look over the 2nd gen and don't care for the rail so much...but that's just me and others prefer the rail. Mine shoots very well and although I don't have a standard 3913 I do have a 6904 and a Shorty 40 (PC gun). To me the 3913TSW feels like it falls between these for fit, finish, and overall feel but I like all 3 just fine.:D
