Folks, I did try to find this answer with search but unfortunately I was unable to narrow down to what I wanted.... Feel free to just add a link and/or point out my lack of focus :)

I just made an impulse buy at Walmart for 500 rounds of Tulammo 223 55g in the tuna can for $119 + tax. I've NEVER run steel through any of my firearms but it just seemed too good to pass up at about 26 cents per round. I've been ogling the Wolfe 223 Gold in other threads for about 36 cents per round in real brass so perhaps I'm having buyers remorse :) Maybe the mods should begin to hand out 3 days ammo purchase suspensions for impulse buys :o

Any pros/cons folks would like to share about running this stuff through a MP15 Sport (1:9)?

Thanks in advance!

I run steel all the time for years. Have yet to have a problem in any gun.

Someone will come along to tell you how their guns exploded on the first shot.

I have an older bushmaster and the steel cases get stuck in the barrel. Tul runs like a champ in my AK though

Steel Cases

I also had problems the stuck cases in my older model Bushmaster. My Ruger Ranch Rifle and my Colt 6920 shoot them fine. A bit dirty though.

It's a bit under powered, you should shoot some in your rifle to see if it works first before committing to larger purchases. Some guns flat out don't like steel.

Lucky Gunner is not the greatest test ever for steel case, it is not reflective of real world results for average joe. It's a torture test pure and simple and wear as a result should be regarded largely as a result of it.

If your gun runs it, shoot away, your barrel will last a lot longer than lucky gunners if not doing mag dumps to burn through 10k of ammo as fast as possible.

Depends on what you run it through. Some ARs and ranch rifles chew it up, while others barf.

My AR hates it, but I've run it through others with no problems.

I've put about 1000 rounds of the Tula steel cased through my Sport and have not had a single problem. The days I shoot brass - I only shoot brass and the days that I shoot Tula I only shoot Tula. I've heard that switching can be an issue. I'm just lazy though and don't want to sift through all my empties to pick out the brass, otherwise I probably would have tried it. If you have a problem with it, I'm sure that someone will take it off your hands for what you paid.

The problem with running brass after steel is that steel does not expand and seal as well as brass so the chamber tends to get more dirty than using brass. That's fine while you're shooting steel, but if you then shoot brass it expands more and can get stuck in the dirty chamber. Otherwise, pretty much everything you will ever read bad about steel isn't worth the time to read. Buy it, shoot it, don't worry.

I agree with Phil I've shot it with no problems just clean before shooting brass. I've even shot it with a slidefire and no failures. Like Phil said "Buy it, shoot it, don't worry." if your rifle doesn't like it move on.
