TV gripe

Lately many of the movie providers on Dish are putting a black band all the way around the picture. This makes the picture considerably smaller.
TCM manages to keep the picture as large as possible.
I'm considering dropping about 90% of what I subscribe to.

My TiVo died. I think it is the power supply, I have a new one on order. It really stinks to not be able to skip the commercials.

It's hard to say without knowing more about your setup. Sometimes you can change the aspect ratio to fit the screen.

Some of the OTA stuff in Vegas turns up in weird formats, and sometimes I'm forced to dig down the TV's menus to change the aspect.

Simple solution. On the Dish remote, to the right of the red power on off button, are the page up and down buttons. While watching the program, hit the page up button until you get the screen orientation that suits you. Hitting that button gives you a multitude of choices.
