Hey All,

I'm purchasing a used M&P 2.0 compact in 9mm. The pistol comes with a 15 round magazine, but the base plate extends past the front edge of the grip a bit. It appears this mag fits the M&P 2.0 compact, but that S&W made 15 round 9mm M&P mags with different base plates? Just curious why S&W would do this, as it's my understanding this wouldn't fit in a full size model anyway (?) since it fits the 2.0 compact?

Also, anyone have a lead on where I might get a base plate that will allow the mag base plate to sit flush with the front of the grip?

Thanks.

I am not sure if it is what you are talking about but S&W makes a full size magazine that only holds 15 rounds to accommodate Colorado which has a 15 round limit for pistol magazines.

Maybe that's it. It's a 15 round magazine, but the base plate is made to fit flush with the full size grip's base. Funny thing is, the mag body itself doesn't extend past the bottom of the grip, which has me confused as I thought full size mags would be longer.

See attachments for what I'm referring to.

Some where along the way, someone put a full size(17 rnd) base plate on a compact mag. The 2.0 compact(15 rnd) and 1st gen compact mags(12 rnd) have the same baseplate, where as the 17 round full size mags have a slightly longer base plate. You can call S&W customer service and they should help you out to get the right base plate.

Beat me to it. I think the previous owner swapped baseplates, perhaps to get a better grip on the pistol, without using the finger rest baseplate that S&W provides.

Okay, so I think I've figured it out. It looks like S&W makes two 15 round M&P magazines, but one with the "regular" baseplate and one with the compact base plate. The first listing below is with the regular one, the 2nd is with the compact one.

My guess is the original compact mags with this pistol evaporated somehow, and the seller just picked up another 15 round mag that happened to be the first one listed below. Anyway, I'd like to swap the base plate out on this for a compact base plate.

I would bet you have a compact 15 round magazine with a base plate from a full size magazine. The magazine in your first link is for a full size M&P, not the 2.0 Compact. The 15 round Colorado magazines have a stop in them to prevent more that 15 rounds fitting in them but the magazine is sized for the full size gun.
