Two hardheads and a Model 640.....

As much as I want a 640ND, I'm not paying that much for one. It's been a few years, but whenever I tried chasing a 640ND on GB I gave myself a budget of $600 max. Each time I was outbid and had to stop chasing. I did see a few with Buy It Now prices in the $700-800 range.

A few things are off about that listing. Supposedly only the very early Model 640's with the CEN prefix to the serial number have the "TESTED FOR +P+" etching. So that example couldn't have been manufactured in 2001. More likely in 1989.The Pachmayrs are obviously non original.
I suppose there is a slight premium for the early markings, maybe $50 ?
I give the seller credit for the large number of high quality photos. But they also reveal someone who didn't know what they were doing went over it with steel wool or a Scotchbrite pad.
In today's market I would have estimated that gun would sell for around $850 or so, it is a desirable model. I'll bet the seller is quite happy.

I wish we had an icon for these messages that shows the emoji gagging or "hurling". That would fit here.

The Pythons must be at 10 grand if the Model 19s are at 3 grand!

Found this one on this forums classified last month.
Glad I did.
Small amount of carry wear but tight and right.
I am guess about a 1990 mfg.

My three 640's combined cost me about the same amount of money as that online example, and two of mine have boxes. The 640 is a nice gun, but no way I'm paying $1,000+ for one. I saw one a couple of months ago, no box, for $575 at a show. Deals are still out there, but not too many are found in an auction.

I bet the thread title hit it right on the head.

Somewhere out there, one guy had a thousand dollars play money, and one guy had fifteen hundred bucks.

Each decided that he wanted this gun, a wonderful example with the "Tested For..." markings.

And each put his chips on the line.

It's a crazy amount. I wouldn't pay it. Like 31Ford, all the 640s I've owned combined didn't cost that much.

But, I respect the idea. That hypothetical guy had that amount of money to spend. We have to assume that his family will still eat this month.

He wanted this cool 640. He got it. It's his. Forever.

Good for him.
