Two Must Haves for 9MM Shield

Just picked up my new Shield last week and the first thing I noticed was how slippery the stock grip was for my big hands. I fixed this immediately with "Talon" grips. What a difference! First of all, they were very easy to put on and they now look like they came with the gun. I have always thought that those aftermarket sleeves were ugly. These Talons adhesive grips look amazing. You actually just peel off the backing and slowly stick them on and then use a blow dryer to heat them up.

The second must have is the "Outbags USA" IWB leather holster that you can buy on Amazon.com. This holster is made specifically for the shield and it is awesome. Best $35 leather holster I have every purchased.

One other must have for the Shield, at least for me, is an Uplula magazine loader. While my shield is a 40 rather than a 9, I and others have found that fully loading the shield magazines can be a "Thumbusting" experience. One trip to the range without my Uplula, has taught me never to try that again.

I came to the same conclusion, about all three. Though, I went a little different way. I also thought that the grip on the Shield was a bit slick for my taste. I got the Hogue Hand-All Jr. grip. I also agree that a good holster is good to have. And I learned, a long time ago, about the virtues of the Uplula.

I agree about the UpLula because the Shield mag followers are backwards for right handers and the springs are stiff.

For me, the 4 must haves are
1. Talon grips with upper thumb area removed
2. Undercut/remove texture under trigger guard
3. N8 tactical IWB holster (keeps the Talon's from rubbing)
4. Gold Dot Short Barrel +P

my next 3 would be
4. aftermarket sights
5. pearce finger rest baseplate
6. trigger job

I agree, the loader is a must at the range. An Apex sear was a noticeable improvement also..

I have had my shield for almost a year and it's still completely stock, I kind of like it that way. I agree a good comfortable holster is a must have for edc.

I agree. Something foe the grip. (I stippled) a good holster. Hidden hybrid holster for me. But you guys are forgetting one thing. Lots of ammo because it's fun to shoot!

I'll go with tbgunner88, my Shields are stock, with the white dots blacked out. Beyond that, ammo, magazines and a nice leather holster/mag pouch.

To each their own, shoot often and stay safe

For me it was talon grips, apex duty/carry kit, ameriglo pro I dot sights, and a quality holster for carrying the gun
I installed the first 3 items after 500 rounds, and the holster is on order.

For my M&P shield 9mm I got the Talon grips & the DeSantis Inside Heat holster designed for M&P shield's.

The mag loader is good, but I would recommend it for most semi auto guns.

The Shield is a very well made gun and for it's purpose really only needs a good holster and occasional cleaning. Anything more isn't a "must have", it's a "just want". Of course, that's just my opinion.

I respect your opinion on all counts, but after 500 rounds of the gun being a little too slick in the grip(for me), on went the Talon grips. Again after 500 rounds of a gritty trigger with a less than discernible reset, the Apex duty/carry went in. Lastly, my 60 year old eyes needed all the help of the Ameriglo sights. All 3 were must for me, definitely not "just wants"

Most definitely #2 on your list. That texturing was tearing up my middle finger. Don't know why Smith extended it that far.

My two are the Pearce grip extension and an Apex hard sear.

Just something to consider for the Shield 9mm. For concealment purposes, a finger extension makes the grip nearly as long as using the 8-round mag. I'd rather have the 8th round.

My 9mm is a better EDC with its Apex hard sear and TruGlo TFO sights. If it's happy, I'm happy.

got my rubber Talons on today , feels great!, got Pearce extensions on the way , now thinking the Viridian Green Laser may be next !

Not a must by I put truglo TFO, apex carry kit and trigger. I think the shield is a great weapon out of the box but the improvements were outstanding.
