two piece barrel

Hello all. I know this may be a dumb question, but what is a two piece barrel? I did a search and found diagrams but I just don't see it in the schematics. This is where it sounds dumb. I thought the forcing cone was part a single threaded barrel and was screwed and torqued into the frame of the revolver. What part am I missing. Please explain so I can better understand.

The two-piece barrel is most noticeably on the S&W's which have non-steel alloy frames, such as aluminum/titanium, etc.

They have a shroud over the steel barrel. While titanium is strong, it can't be rifled.

Go to S&W's web site, and check out the Nightguard series. Up close you can see the alloy shroud around the steel barrel.

Dennis The B' Thank you. The alloys I knew were two piece. So my 36 blue classic IL has a one piece threaded barrel like I explained in my earlier post?

Should have.
Look at it. If it has two barrel pieces (outer shroud & inner tube), you'll be able to see them quite clearly.

Yeah, I have a 66-7 with a 2-piece barrel. The outer shroud or sleave is quite distinct from the inner tube. Very accurate gun.

One advantage on the K-frame -- the forcing cone did not need the K-frame flat spot.

I had a 66-7 also and it is/was a very accurate gun.
