I have had a total of two problems with my Sigma 9mm since I bought it this summer. I was wondering if anyone else had similar issues.

First off, the dang thing started to jam like crazy one day, once or twice a magazine. I worked to fix it - took it apart, cleaned all the pieces, etc. Took it back to the range and put about 200 through it in about an hour. It began to jam again. Eventually I found out that the feed ramp on the Sigma 9mm is extremely sensitive compared to its .40S&W sister. Since then I've kept the feed ramp spartan-clean, put two thousand rounds through it at the range without a single jam. Sometimes at a long range stay I'll take it apart after about 200 rds and wipe the ramp real quick. If you're good, it's about a 15 second operation. If you keep that ramp clean, in my experience, you can RELY on shot after shot without misfires.

Second, my extractor chipped. It has a nasty chip on it, visible with a flash light, but still seems to eject rounds easily w/o issues. I expect that at some point the extractor's going to chip the rest of he way off and render my gun inoperable. I pray that this happens at the range and not while I'm defending a stagecoach.

Anyone else have these issues and have solutions I haven't considered?

I've not found either of these things happen with my SW9VE. The ramp on mine has been fine through all kinds of rounds and the extractor has been fine (before someone starts hollering about MIM, the same thing happened to the forged extractor on my Hi-Power . . . and it kept working fine until I replaced it tho only 1/3 of the surface was remaining).

An unmentioned but effective solution would be to call S&W Customer Service and return the gun for a new extractor and a new barrel, which they would no doubt be delighted to provide.

(BTW, I'm pleased to have a complete spare parts kit for my gun, less the frame - I bought a chopped gun that police seized.

I'd urge folks to keep an eye out for such things.)

Call S&W and ask for a call tag to return the gun under warranty. No brainer, as this is not normal and needs repair.

I've been pretty astounded at the range of opinions on this gun since I bought it. It also seems that some sigmas break pretty easily and others are put through hell and work fine.

Sucks I got one of the duds, I guess. When its the only gun in the house, its hard to want to send it away for a while.

Of four Sigmas and 16 magazines, I've had one trigger assembly and one magazine replaced under warranty by S&W. All have been shot a lot by a lot of different people.

If you've never had a gun break, you haven't shot enough............

Well, it's that or have a gun you don't trust. Do whichever makes more sense to you.

(Perhaps you can borrow one from a friend while your Swock is away for a couple of weeks. I've loaned guns to friends with analogous circumstances.)

Do you always load from the magazine or do you sometimes load a round in the chamber and close the slide?

Skeeter Skelton wrote of his friend Col. Evan Quiros, who had an early Model 29 which he used on his ranch every day, and just in case it ever broke (later articles revealed it never did, by the way), Col. Quiros had the twin to it, brand new, in its factory case.

This is a great example of why you should have two!
