I just got another 45 auto, 4th one. A Springfield mil-spec. I found a load on another forum that said 4.5 grs. of WST was a keeper and it is with a Montana Gold 230 F.M.J., then I got some 230 J.H.P. from the same people and used 6.6 grs. of Auto Comp for 871 f.p.s.. The WST load is going 800 F.P.S. Both shoot P.O.A. and are very accurate. When I set up my RCBS dies to load the J.H.P., I got 1.234 as a O.A.L. then without changing a thing, loading the 230 F.M.J., I got a O.A.L. of 1.265. I thought, what a bonus and they both shoot excellent. So, I'm stoked, I thought I better give my pals here a heads up. I have heard people bad mouth Auto Comp, but I really like the stuff for high end loads. I also loaded up some 158 gr Hornady XTP's in my snub nose 38 and got groups with all 5 touching one another. That load was 4.9 grs. of Auto Comp with 158 gr XTP for 865 F.P.S. A good day at the range for me. Don't let any one bad mouth Auto Comp. For target loads I use WST now. I'm sure many other powders will work, but where I live, 231,Unique and AA#5 are hard to find and those were the ones I relied on. So, give those powders a try if you can't find the old stand-bys.
