In 35 years of being around the Smith and Wesson community, at competitions, gun shows, LGS etc. I have seen two of these guns. The first had been extremely abused and would have made a shooter.
And this is the second one and basically in 99.9% condition and I believe unfired other than factory test
I'm not here to tell your story about how I snuck up on at the it and stole it because I didn't but once I started looking at its condition and the date it was manufactured I didn't care what the cost was it was going to be mine
The Spec. Order. 0276 is my birthday however, I'm a few years older then the gun, And I don't want to discuss that. Thank you! but how cool is that?
And the fact that some say the Smith & Wesson Model 29–7 is the second most rare next to the Model 29-1 and some say it's even more rare than the model 29–1 however, It's not as sought after, So don't get your panties in a bunch, But who knows what it will be valued at someday.
So with it being manufactured on my birthday, and I think it's very eye appealing to my taste, and it is rare! I'm pretty happy with this find!

I dont really care for the Pinto version of guns, BUT I like the few with just a stainless cylinder. Didn't know this one existed. I don't read the Standard catalog from cover to cover. It is neat that oddballs show up that you have no idea of. I really like this one, very nice, thanks for sharing...

Congrats on finding your birthDAY gun! Like you, I found mine and it came with a letter written on my birthday also, 16 Sept, but a few years later!

Does anybody out there have any information on the model 29–7
I have came up with very little so far!
I've had correspondence with Doc 44 and he does not have a lot of information on them
I'm truly a finder of unicorns, absolutely without a doubt my favorite quote is from the great Roy Jinks
" With Smith & Wesson all things are possible"
Thank you all
Tom

I can't go without bringing this one back to the top today,
Because this is my birthday gun as noted on the end of the box I am much older than this beautiful model 29–7 but it was made on my birthday anyway
October 2 of 2000

Has anybody got any information on the model 29–7? They are few and far between.

If you have one, I would love to start a database keeping track of the serial numbers because they are as rare one way or the other as a model 29 – 1 of which they keep track of the serial numbers
on the older thread up to 1980

You all enjoy your day
Tom

I remember seeing one when they were new at either Moss Pawn in Jonesboro or Bullseye in Larryville, GA. Pretty sure it was Moss. Thought about getting it but something must have caught my attention. No more seen since then!

Here Ya go, Jeeper. Straight from the excellent SCSW/ed4:

"Model 29-7 with Stainless steel cylinder: A small quantity were assembled with stainless steel cylinders on the new frame design as parts are made available for assembly in Oct 2000. The only reported production of a Model 29 with the new frame design at that time. Fitted with Hogue Grips on a round butt frame with 6" barrel, target trigger and target hammer, Red Ramp front sight with white outline rear sight. Product Code: 149190 with serial number CDF8992 was one example, Product Code 149191 is also found. ANIB $950"

"Supica, Jim; Nahas, Richard. Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson) (p. 237). Gun Digest Media. Kindle Edition."
Don't leave home without your SCSW.... Kindle Edition is a great tool when you're gunshop-surfing! :D

Trust me I have the 4th book of standards and already have the 5th book on pre-order.

There is so little information out there about model 29-7. I'm going to have a letter done on it when I get around to it here but it is a unique part of Smith and Wesson history, Do I want a model 29-1 yes Sir I do but I'm not sure I would trade this even up for one at this point, partly because it is my birthday gun!

My 340PD has a gray/silver cylinder but I was never a fan of this look.

Bi-Tone love?

Is there a way to tell it's factory without a letter?

If I was at a show and looking at one for instance.

This is straight from the fourth edition of the book of standards

They are few and far between good luck and let me know what the serial number is if you find one

Here is a rather unusual 629-5. It is 1 of 100 shipped to Lew Horton in December of 2000. Sorry about the sideways letter photo. I'm not very good at editting.
