Tyler Grip Adapter Education Needed

I'm new at older Smith & Wessons and I need some help with my education. Why did this adapter sell for $202? Thanks!

Because somebody had way more money than good sense! Tyler's T-Grip adapters are still being made in Oklahoma; athough it appears that the company is slow in shipping since the old man died. In reality they are worth about $35. The ones on the photo were the older style with Tyler's printed on themand in a box not a plastic bag but sheesh!

I bought a bunch of them (the old ones) ten or fiveteen years ago when the market was turning to high-cap auto loaders. At that time it was common to find them or Pachmayr adapters in the "spare parts" box at gun shows for $5. Magna style stocks and a grip adapter still fit my hands better than anything else.

Because some poeple will put a very large max bid to assure they will get it (and assuming that most bidders will make normal bids) When you get two people doing the same thing the proxy bidding automically keeps bidding up each in turn until the lower max bid is reached then the higher guy get it. ( Assuming he doesn't then stiff the seller with a story about mis-placing a decimal point)

It could either be shill bidding, or two ignorant bidders that have no idea of the fair market value of the item - and don't seem to care.

If the runner-up bidder wants one at that price, I'd be more than happy to oblige him.

It's an older T-Grip with lettering, which does not justify the price in my book but obviously it's worth $200 to someone. I've seen the same thing happen in the collector car hobby, guys want a particular item for whatever reason and money's no object. It really spoils it for the little guy...

Wow - I'm rich and didn't know it. I bought a bagful of those things, new-in-the-boxes, for $5 at a gunshow a long time ago. Not $5 each, $5 for the whole bag, probably 20 or so total. (20 x $200 = $4000 (!)).
I'd gladly sell them for the bargain price of $150 each if there were any more takers like the guy who bought that one for over $200.
Seriously, I'm glad I got them because I like the look and feel of them, but it's hard to believe someone paid that much for one.

No, you're not missing anything, just plain old auction mania. Some people just have to win no matter the cost. (You must 'Shop Victoriously' after all) I bought 3 from SuperMan for a lot less than that one went for. Come to think of it, I got the guns they went on for less than that too.

About fifteen years ago I bought an early Tyler grip adapter that had the OKC address with city zone so I guess that it predated zip codes. Likely from the '50s or early '60s. I paid $250.00 for it.

It did have a 44 Special 3rd model HE with a 4" barrel attached as a bonus.

Do the Tyler T-grip adapters that have the Tyler company name on them all look like this - complete with "Melvin"? This one was carried 26 years by a LEO starting in 1952.

First of all, I'm totally new to the forum. Just registered today. Regarding Tyler grip adapters, I thought they'd gone out of business; I'd sent in a check in February and just received it today, Aug. 10. So you GOTTA be patient. It's my third T-Grip Adapter; it's on a S&W Thunder Ranch M22 .45 acp. I also have them on a 2 1/2 inch M 19 .357and on a Ruger Security Six .357. I think they're the best thing since sliced bread because they fit my hands...they just feel good. Others aren't sold on them, though. Anyway, it's good to get on board with all you guys (and gals?). Hope to hear from you.

We all love the grip adaptors! If we could get them...
This was one from a new order about 18 months ago, and they were dandy.

I figured out the reason some Tyler grips have sold on ebay for up to $275.00 which is the current record. Few dealers are willing to sell overseas and those getting the high price are willing to sell overseas.

There is a "long" thread (I believe in the Lounge) with the many complaints that the company was going out of business, no one was getting the grips ordered, but the company was cashing the checks, the attorney general was investigating, etc. Evidently the old man that ran the company passed away, and there was a dispute between the children about running the company. Evidently within the past month one of the children has taken over the business, and has been shipping back orders and is cleaning up the mess.
While the company was having problems there was an artificial shortage of T-grips, and with the thought there would be "no more", the prices went way up. Well, now they are available again,as well as a similar offering by BK Grips which are priced less, mfg out of polymer rather than aluminum.

Someone wasn't a member of this forum and had no idea BK Grip Adapters are now being made, and even better the new model of BK's will have an upper and lower set of copper tabs to set even stronger in the grip. So, wrong place at the wrong time???
