I prefer the MagPul Pmags in both 20 and 30 round versions, but I do have about an equal number of aluminum GI mags in 20 and 30 rounds of various manufacture. The Pmags just seem so much smoother operating.

You need to correct your poll. USGI mags are aluminum not steel except for the small issue of HK steel mags to USSOCOM which you have listed. Here's my break down

24-PMags 30 rd
100+ USGI 30rd
100+ USGI 20rd
8- HK 30 rd (been getting rid of this)
7- Thermolds (88')

CD

Brownells mags have earned a great rep as far as conventional aluminum bodied go. They got a big USGI contract after a bunch of cheap lower bid mags proved junk.

Voted pMag

I got in the AR game late, and my first (S&W M&P15OR) came with a pMag. I was shocked, "a plastic mag?!!!". The original pMag worked so well, I've bought many more (20 rd for range bench shooting days, and 30 rd for, ..., blasting stuff).

The alum GI mags are so nice and cheap lately (just one example: 30 rd with gray enhanced Magpul followers $9.99 at Bravo Co ) that I've "had" to buy more of those lately also. I find that one of the great things about the AR platform is many excellent Mags available for very reasonable prices.

I've yet to have a single failure of any type with either pMag or alum GI Mag. But I've still not reached 2000 rounds though my first center fire AR, so I'm a pretty meaningless data point (why that dosn't stop me from posting .... I guess I just like to talk about AR Mags:rolleyes:).

Most of my magazines are USGI. I received 5 MagPuls from S&W as part of my purchase of a M&P 15. I compete in NRA high power matches & use USGI 20 round mags in my match gun. I bought them used at least 10 years ago and must have put over 2000 rounds through each, on average. They still function 100%. The MagPuls are still on the shelf. I'll use them when the others wear out.

The first 100 Brownells mags we bought for my team gave us a 10 +% failure rate. The mags split along the spine. We only use them for training at this point. Issued P mags and have no problems. I have also used the C products mags with no issues. The Dept. has bought these (C products) to replace aging GI mags for our patrol guys.
