Okay, I'll cut out my attempt at German! But guys just got this in the other day! It's a German made Mercator brand K55K "Black Cat" knife!! These have been made since the 1860s and were used in both world wars by German troops, popular bring back for U.S. GIs. This tuetonic masterpiece of simplicity is an inexpensive yet durable and timeless piece. Thin, lightweight, good lock, and has a kitty on the side!! :D

So far I'm really impressed. These knives have an incredible history and you should get one, great user knifes!! Take care all!!

Now you've done it. You can't stop there if you are interested in history. Next you'll want a Japanese Higo No Kami, then an African Kudu but it won't stop there.

Good luck on your knife quest:)

Now that you have one in hand, how do you like it compared to the Douk-Douk? (A knife with a very similar folded steel handle.)

I've carried the Mercator for a few days and do enjoy it. It's a nice knife! But today,y Douk-Douk rides again in my pocket. I just like it a bit more! The blade grind is even better, it's even lighter, and sooo simple. But the Black Cat is a great addition! When I get back to the states a Higonokami and Okapi knife will both be ordered!! :)

The classic Okapi is the rarchet knife, beloved of Jamaican rudeboys. If you get one tuned up right, it can be a lot of fun to flick it open and closed. There are some entertaining videos on the subject. QC on the ratchet knives is pretty hit or miss, however. Min is kind of a dud; I should have sent it back and tried for a better one.

Okapi also makes some smaller slipjoint knives with external back springs. I have had better luck with them than with my ratchet. My favorite is the Biltong, a snappy sheepsfoot that I carry every day. I also have the Genet, which is like a small folding paring knife. I have not bonded with it as I have the Biltong, but as always, YMMV. There are a couple of other models as well that I have not tried.

These knives have QC issues, too, so your best bet is to buy them from Baryonyx and let Forty-Two Blades cull out the duds. Let him put an edge on them, too, for best results. BTW, he does not carry the ratchet knives, which should tell you something.

Just checked his website. VERY cool! So he inspects the knives? Neat! He also has Douk-Douk at a very solid price!!
