UK based shooters

I had a CMC single stage 3.5lb trigger with curved blade in mine and its a lovely trigger. I've recently switched to the same trigger but with a flat blade and its amazing! All the flat blade ones have sold out on the Lantac website but they still have the curved for only £95!

Their new store goes live soon as they've now produced a newer version of the trigger. They don't use CMC anymore.

Shoot us some pics of the PPQ and a general review, likes dislikes etc....I realise it's not the right forum but nobody ever really reads stuff online any way ;)

I recently picked a tricked out 1911 and love it to bits...you show me yours and I'll show you mine...oo err missus ;)

Hi GM

Straight out the box with irons, wind down the back sight down as far as it will go and it was spot on at 25yds.
Weight wise, much lighter than 1911, comfortable to hold, easy to load, point and aim.
Mag changes are swift and gun is lovely to shoot.
With the addition of the Shield RDS just bloody marvellous.
A whole ton of fun to use and on duelling trees it is a blast shooting one on one.
My only gripe is cost. Gun, shroud, sight, mount etc puts it at the top end of any budget.
That's my only complaint really, but once paid for and crying stops, the money worry melts away soon as you shoot the damn thing. 😂😂

Looks the bee's knees...Cost lol well what do you expect? I got my 1911 which had already been fitted with all the aftermarket parts and a lovely grey/black colourway cerakote job, off a guy who had just purchased the PPQ. He was very happy with his purchase as was I with mine...my only complaint really is that the 1911 is hungrier than the 15-22. A day at the range with those two is an exercise in self control...otherwise 400 rounds gone in a couple of mins. :D

Hi

Iain here from near Wisbech on the edge of the fens (go to the arse end of nowhere, turn left and travel in a straight line for 5 miles and I'm there).

I finally get to pick up my own 15-22 in a week's time, but I've been shooting them for several years as a Club Coach/Instructor.

Mainly shoot at Bisley because the local, county range is run by NSRA prone prima-donnas who think a semi-auto is a product of Beelzebub's bottom and all users of said satanic instruments should be incarcerated in a wicker man.

Got nothing major planned for it just yet other than anti-walk pins & trigger kit courtesy of Black Rifle near Milton Keynes plus a 3 x ACOG sight, but other mods may follow as money allows.

Looking forward to hearing more from you all and may even meet up one day.

Iain

Welcome to the madness!!!

Blimey, all the way to Bisley? FFS!!!! Those greys can be a pain.

Have you thought about taking a ride up to Lincoln?

Nice club there at Reepham. Runs Sat and Sun. 2 different clubs.

Drop me a pm, you could guest shoot if you want as one of mine.

It may open up more shooting days for you.

Rob1

Hello Rob1 and many thanks for the welcome.

Yes, Bisley can be quite a hike, usually a 2 ½ to 3 hour trip each way, but I think I may have misled you. It's not the guys there that are the prima-donna's, it's the ones at my local home range near Peterborough.

I'm a member of a Club based at Bisley that offers it's 12 guest days as shooting experience days for corporate groups covering gallery rifle, air pistol & rifle, 900yd target rifle, 300yd sniper on McQueen's, target shotgun and whatever else we can throw at them. The money raised goes to a Forces charity as well as support for the GB Rifle team to attend overseas events.

I'm just one of a hard core of about twenty that coach/instruct on the various disciplines and generally look after the guests and make sure they have an enjoyable but safe day. It can be hard work but it's damned good fun and it beats working for a living. It's definitely worth the effort.

My local range, near Peterborough is the one that's the PITA. It used to be a good place, but now there's a lot of bickering and bitchiness so I try to avoid the Saturday/Sunday club days whenever possible. I'm often there with a couple of other guys, after work on a Friday.

I've heard of Reepham over the years so your kind invite to visit is very welcome. I'll send a PM soon.

Once again, thanks for the welcome and I hope to be meeting up soon

I remember having 'issues' with the greys at my club a few years ago...I got into a childish situation regarding me shooting at a paper hostage target...eliminating the threat with 5 well placed head shots and 5 shots to the heart...The greys on the committee, took umbrage to this and put the target up in the foyer as... 'targets not appropriate to shoot!'

I always get a sense of pride when I walk past it even to this day.

My solution to this was to get on the committee and influence them from the inside...which didn't work. Stubborn old greys who shrink in disgust or rise up in anger at the thought that anyone could have fun with a firearm. One by one they are retiring so time is on my side.....In the meantime as a committee member...I have keys to the club/office, the outdoor range and the indoor range which I live less than 10 mins away from. I shoot what I want, when I want. I'm kinda lucky in that regard and enjoy every minute of it.

hi from up north carlisle just bought a 15-22 usually shooting my 20 tactical whats best for these plinkers a red dot or scope theres so much choice

Just applied for a variation

As title applied for another slot on fac. Gonna purchase an MP 15/22 Sport SL.
Intend to use for LSR along with my CZ455. Thought about a 10/22 but fancy something different that's easy to strip down.

Mike from OHio USA. I just got back in January from a 3 year stay in the UK. Worcester based for most of the time. Now I am back in the USA with a couple of safes full of all kinds of hardware. I had a friend there that had some shotguns. But I was unaware that you could shoot anything that was a semi auto in any caliber or a handgun for that matter. The 1911 you refer to? Are those .45 ACP 1911s? I was told by the store owner in Worcester that the only handguns allowed in England were Air soft pistols. Was I mis- informed? Good luck to all of you. You do a good job making do with what you are allowed! I am flying back in August for a friends daughters wedding and then some vacationing in North Wales before heading back to London for a couple of days and then fly back to Cleveland, OH. We really enjoyed our time in England/ the West Midlands. We made some life long friends and we saw an lot of the Uk from the Isle of Skye to Kent, to Yorkshire, Devonshire, Herefordshire, Wales and alot in between. I would do it again in a New Youk minute.

Glad you enjoyed your time over here!

Semi-auto wise we're restricted to .22 (lr, WMR etc) for rifled guns, and they must not be 'short firearms' i.e. must have at least a 12" barrel and 24" overall. The 1911 referred to would be the GSG version, but in UK spec which means it has a 12" barrel and a 'coat-hanger' arm-brace do-dad sticking off the back of the magwell to make up the 24" OAL requirement, they are hideous but its what we have to put up with!

Semi-auto shotguns are also legal on a Shotgun Certificate (license) but if you want more than 2 in the magazine you have to get the shotgun on Firearms Certificate (FAC). Semi-auto and pump-action FAC shotguns must have at least a 24" barrel and be 40" OAL. Lever-action, break-action, bolt-action etc only have to comply with the 12"/24" restriction.

Well, now that's strange. Maybe the English government thinks if the casing has a shoulder, that it's more "scary"? :o

No, it is a simple piece of law. Only .22 was allowed to be semi auto then .17 came along. No mention or update in law of semi auto = no semi auto in .17.

When there were proposed changes to the legislation following the Cumbrian shootings it was actually proposed to allow .17HMR semi-autos (actually any rimfire semi-auto .22 and below), but there were no changes to the primary legislation (many due to David Cameron getting them shelved). While a .17HMR would've been nice (if not expensive to run!), the other stuff that was proposed would've far outweighed any gains we would've made.

I recently took delivery of my .22WMR AR type semi auto from GunCraft.

Absolutely great fun to shoot. A little pricey for ammo but best we can get in UK I'm afraid.

And a mile better than .17HMR IMHO.

Rob.

My soul brothers in the UK, don't overlook the joys of shooting bolt action rifles. There are many models built to focus on long distance accuracy, which is alot of fun if you have access to a 200 yard or longer range.

I was under the impression that in the UK, you were required to store your gun (any type) at a registered gun club under lock and key. You are not allowed to keep them in your home, Not so?

I recall a story from a few years ago in which a UK resident used a shotgun to shoot a home intruder. He was successfully sued by the intruder, and ended up going to prison for a firearms violation.

We can keep our firearms at home as long as we comply with thhe security requirements.

The incident you quote related to Tony Martin, a secluded farmer whose house was broken into. The laws of self defence here are specific and the response proportional. Shooting the miscreant in the back while he was running away does not comply with self defence. There were other mitigating circumstances.
