I had to come up with something while I try to make some new wood grips for my Model 13. I just found the original ones look good but are just not comfortable to shoot and I did not buy the gun for the safe. The bantam grips feel really nice and will help out a lot shooting the magnum rounds. I want to make a full set of grips made out of Maple burl that will be contoured to my hand and that will take some time. When all said and done I will take a picture and have a rubber removal ceremony for all the die hards..:)

Yeah, those rubber grips don't do a thing for the appearance. I like the feel of hand rubbed oiled grips best.

Good luck with your project, and I'm looking forward to pictures of the finished product.

They may be ugly as sin, but the Bantams are the real deal when it comes to the hard kickers in little guns. I'm not a fan of the oversized Hogues, but I own a couple pairs of the Bantam. For awhile I even had a set on my duty gun, and it was faaaaassssssst out of the holster, it makes for a very sure grip!

ultimate sin hogue rubber on my 13

Sir, you haven't sinned; you've simply discovered what many of us used to do 25 years ago. Back then, S&W stocks came in only two sizes: too big and too small. You'd normally buy a set of Pachmayr grips at the same time you got the gun. Remember, they were new guns then, not collectors' items, and we bought them to shoot.

I'm aware that "rubber" is out of fashion today, but it makes a hard-kicking gun much more tolerable.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Rubber grips are all I use on my carry and competition guns. I like Hogue and Uncle Mikes/Butler Creek grips best.

Thanks to the generosity of forum member Big Lou, I have Butler Creek boot grips on my 3" 13-3. Thanks Big Lou! :) Regards 18DAI.

Rubber grips look terrible...

BUT back in the revolver days of Law Enforcement, when we carried 44, and 41, and 357 Magnums, most of the guys that shot a lot carried rubber grips.

I did.

putting comfortable rubber grips on your gun to shoot it is less of a sin than retiring it to the safe and not shooting it at all

I currently have these on my M13 and it is one of the best "handling" handguns I have ever owned.

And the rubber does help minimate recoil in a handgun where you need a quick return.

I do hope to buy a M65 3 inch barrel some day. When I do I might dress up the M13 as the M65 will for sure become the "carry piece with rubbers."

There's Goodyears on all of the guns I shoot regularly, sometimes function trumps form...

I post lots of pics of my guns with wood and stag grips. BUT, the older I get and the more arthritis sets in my hand, I find myself going back to the rubber grips for function.

My 66 snub wears Hogue Bantam grips. Best feeling grip ever for me on the k-frame snubs. My hand goes to it perfectly in the holster and the gun comes up and into place as it should...perfect for me.

My 4" Python (worst factory grips ever) wears Pachmayr Presentation (small) rubber. Fits and feels better than Farrants to me.

My 627-PC "Blood Work" .357 wears a set of Pachmayr Compaq grips made for a K-frame...perfect fit.

The story goes on, etc., etc.

semperfi, your 13 looks hot, even if she is wearing pay less shoes!!!
I just bought a 65-3, 3". It was wearing Pach Compacs. Now has Eagle round butt targets. (nice wood grain & checkering) Will hang on to the goodyears though. Fine looking 13! Bob

Thank you bananaman. I have been very remiss in shooting that handgun. Every time I take it out of the safe I promise that I'm goona shoot it soon.

Too many other gun projects currently getting in the way.

Back in "the day" a great many sets of brand new Magnas were tossed in the trash and a set of Pachmayrs put on.

I recently put the wood factory Targets back on my Dad's 6" 586 he bought new back in 1989..........before he even fired the gun, he put a set of Pachmayr Grippers on it and the woods sat in the box for 22 years:) Back in 1989 it wasn't a big deal, the gun was for home defense and range shooting.

I used to be totally against rubber grips on a revolver, then I started to tolerate them on stainless wheelguns........and now I've loosened up even more, and one of my 581's has Pachmayr Presentations and my 10-14 has rubber Hogue RB to SB conversions......I had Pachmayr Presentations on my 10-5 6" but I am not able to tolerate that yet:cool:

Don't beat yourself up, and congrats on making your own improvements!
My 13-1 4" came out of the pawn shop in the early 80's with Packmyers, still there. Until I can afford to be a collector, I'd rather have usable questionable looks than locked in a safe pretty.

Harry Belafonte said this....
"If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life,
Never make a pretty woman your wife..."

:D

I went to the range with the new grips and shot the best grouping using full loads. What a difference they make. After the first shot you forget about the flinch and recoil and you can concentrate on your shooting. I was planning to reload lighter wc loads for the range but have decided to just use regular loads now. There is nothing like the thrill of firing the 357. Thanks for all the support and pics. Nothing looks prettier than a girl with her rubbers on. cheers:)

another testimonial

Nothing looks as good as a well-made pair of fancy-grained wood grips. However, as many testimonials here point out, rubber grips have their place where function is more importance than appearance

There are many differing opinions on which ones work best. A lot depends on how you intend to use them . . . not to mention personal preference. Having used several brands and styles over the years, I had settled on the Uncle Mike's 2-piece variety for my K-frame square butts that I shoot the most.

Recently, however, I purchased a K-frame round butt 65-3 with a pair of Hogue Bantam #62000 grips as described by the OP (ruger-P94) and mentioned by other posters. I love their palm-swell, three-finger grip, open back-strap and overall feel. For those who may not be familiar with them, here are a couple pictures.

I'll confess to being one of those who ditched the wood stocks for pachs on my target guns back in the day. Have tried Hogue (too squishy), new Pachs (wrong shape for my hand. Have a box in my shop with about 6 pounds of discarded rubber in it.
Yesterday, a police trade-in 64-5 arrived. It was wearing a really nasty set of the "Uncle Mikes". Wow. Those felt perfect in my hand. Of course, these aren't made any more. Wish they were available for N-Frames. Might be tempted to go back to rubber on some of my working guns.

linde, those look like they might be what I want for my 65-3, 3". Came with Pach Compac. on it. Changed to Eagle Round Butt Targets for now. what I like in the pic, is it looks like your little finger has somewhere to go! (don't like mine hanging off) Bob
