I have a Model 617 revolver that I'm looking to mount a mini red dot on. I ordered an Allchin mount yesterday but am having trouble deciding on the sight. Got it pretty much narrowed down to the UltraDot L/T and the Burris Fastfire III. I really don't want to spend more on a Leupold Deltapoint or more expensive sight since I won't be shooting competitively...just indoor range shooting at a max distance of 25 yards.
I can get the Burris for $188 (3 MOA), 1 year warranty, and the Ultradot for $220 (4 MOA), lifetime warranty.
I have an UltraDot Matchdot tube style sight on my Browning Buckmark and really like it but don't think it goes well with a revolvers aesthetics so I'd rather have a small reflex sight for this gun. I prefer the looks and profile of the Burris and I can get it cheaper but I'm not sure it's the better of the two.

Never tried the Burris, it's probably just fine. I do have the L/T however, was mounted to a Model 41 5.5 " Heavy Barrel and the gun to sight scale was perfect for that gun. Ended up selling the gun, but kept the sight and mounted it to a 4" revolver. I am very happy with it's performance and aesthetics.

Surprised you sold the 41. Always thought that was the Holy Grail of 22's. I'm leaning towards the L/T. Is the 4 MOA a concern at closer distances...10-25 yards?

I've used tube type red dots on various target guns for many years now, but did put a Burris Fastfire III on my 617-6 with a Allchin mount. It is the 3 MOA, and initially I wanted a 4 MOA, but find the 3 does actually better and the ability to adjust the brightness of the dot is a big benefit outdoors.

I just put a Fastfire 3 on my 6 inch 686. After 5 outings it appears to be a fine addition to my target shooting. These tired eyes are finding some iron sights a bit difficult to see.

Unfortunately, the decision was taken out of my hands. I call the UltraDot folks this morning to try and get a definitive answer about whether or not the UD L/T would fit the Allchin mount and apparently it does not. The width of the Allchin is @ 1 inch and I was told that the UD would only fit a 3/4 inch wide mount. I really like the Allchin mount because it's only 2 1/2 inches long and 1/4 inch high. So I either have to go with the FF3 or find another mount for the UD that doesn't spoil the looks of the gun. I looked at the Weigand mounts but they're 4 1/2 inches long and I think would look silly with a 2 inch long red dot.

There's nothing saying that you couldn't cut the longer Weigand mount after you place the FF or UD where you like...
I may go that route, even if I keep this A/V on the 617.

You're right. It should be easy to cut the Weigand mount down to size. I received the Allchin mount yesterday and it's a thing of beauty...really sleek and trim and only 1/4 inch high. I also ordered the Burris FFIII. If for some reason I'm not happy with that setup I'll return both, get a Weigand mount, cut it down, and try the UD L/T.
By the way, how high is your Weigand mount?

I'll measure next chance I get. I do like the look of the Alchin and the Burris Ff III. I mostly likely will go that route for that 617's bigger brother 686. Please take some pics as you go, it's be interesting. Thanks and good luck!

I'll post pics as soon as the red dot is received and installed.

I had to reorder the Burris FF3 this morning because I originally ordered the one without the mount by mistake and it was less expensive to reorder than getting the mount separately. I'll just return the wrong one but it'll probably take a week for the correct item to be delivered.
For anyone interested, I'm getting the item through Overstock.com with a 10% coupon and free shipping so it was a pretty darn good deal. Free shipping is not so fast though.

Me no savvy???

You received the Allchin mount (Post #8). So no mount needed for the Fastfire. Screws directly to the Allchin in conjunction with the Allchin's tiny alignment pins....

Thanks for setting me straight. I didn't realize that it screws directly to the Allchin mount. I'll cancel the 2nd order. What a dope I am. :o

Related, I picked up a FastFire II from Beretta USA (25% off through the 13th with another 10% off using FBFAN13 coupon code). They have some Burris and Steiner optics if anybody is interested.

Where can l get an Allchin mount ?
