Local gunshop near me, which has always been expensive, has some .22 ammo in stock. Remington Golden Bullet 525 round value pack for $154.99, and Federal 325 round value pack for $99. So apparently .22 bulk ammo is now as high as 9MM. Last time I was there, they had a Kel-Tec SUB-2000 (used) for $2700. Never again will I walk in those doors. I get trying to make a profit, but those prices are out of the park.

Out of curiosity, what would be acceptable in this set of circumstances for a shop/individual to price a ValuePak of 525 rounds? Not trying to set you up, just wondering.

Profiteering. No way the wholesale price has jumped that much. That would the last time I went to that store! Vote with your feet.

I'm not KBM, but its a $25 box of ammo normally..if that. So a retailer might make $5 profit on it. A profit of $150 is beyond unreasonable. If it were me I wouldn't ever go back there, and I would have told them why too

Vote with your feet at the very least. Plus, for years to come tell anyone that will listen what a gouger this shop owner is and to avoid him like the plague.

The best way to handle a gouger is to take money out of his pocket again and again until he finally goes broke.

I'm really shocked to hear a small retail store has the nerve to try and get $155 for 525 rounds of .22LR. He has some set trying that!

That same 525 round ValuePak cost:
Before 2008 = $9.95
Post 2008 during panic = $29.95
After panic = $19.95 to $21.95
Now = you can't find any .22LR ammo.

If anyone in your area ever goes back to that store they should be ashamed, you should drive him out of business. That ammo is nothing special and only plinking ammo, not target ammo. HE HAS SOME NERVE!!

But Jonesy, my question is not whether a consumer would think $155 is high (of course it is) but NOW, with almost no .22 LR available anywhere you go, what is acceptable? Five bucks over the 'normal price of $25' isn't reasonable to me because I have no idea if there is any local gun store that can get it for that price from a wholesaler. My local guys say they can't. So is $50 reasonable? Is $60 or $75?

AA: I agree with most of your figures except around here, I was still picking up 550 ValuePaks (not Remington) for $16-18 until November. I never noticed the .22 blip in 2008 but did see .44 Special and 45 ACP at W-mart go from $9.97 to 16 bucks in a matter of a few months.

Not justifying this gouging , but when a shop has nothing to sell , they don't make any money. They don't make money , they don't pay the bills or the employees. It's all about cash flow. Some gunshops are nearing desperation and getting ready to close the doors.

Blame it on those silly people willing to pay these outrageous prices.

As for me , I'm just not gonna go shooting for awhile till thing stabilize.

And I've still got at least a dozen 500rd bricks of .22s with $9.95 price tags!

Last week I bought three 325 round boxes of Federal auto match ammo for $75 so I guess I got a good deal from my local gun store.

I've heard of $100 for a 535 pack at gun shows which is plain crazy but $150 or 30 cents a round is just flat crazy.

I would go to that shop at least every other day. Cheap laughs are hard to find.

I'm guessing some of this stuff has achieved more shooter value than collector!

My local farm supply store had 50rd boxes of 22lr CCI Blazer LRN for $2.49 this weekend. It's starting to show up here and there.

I keep hearing that 22 is non-existant, but not so. I live in a small town in the middle of no where. Its 30 miles to the nearest McDonalds, Walmart or LGS. I am disabled with severe back problems and don't get out much. In spite of that, I have purchased over 1000 RDS of 22 since the beginning of the year....all at regular prices, and mostly at Walmart. Today I went out of town to the Doctor. I stopped at
Walmart and scored the last 2 boxes of 22 in the store(2x225rds). 2 weeks ago I stopped at a LGS and got a 525 round box of Blazers for 26.95. A couple weeks before that I was by another Walmart and got their last box of 22's. It was a 325rd box of Federal Auto match(maybe 375rds, can't remember). A week before that was in Walmart for groceries and got the last 22's again..this time CCI AR22 ammo, then stopped at the LGS on the way home and got 200 CCI mini mags and 50 stingers. If I lived where I could check these places multiple times per week I could no doubt have had much more.I don't know, maybe I am just lucky. Now 9mm is another matter. I haven't seen any for 3 weeks. Even the LGS is out
