Just keep in mind they proly had a huge Cost of Goods price increase.....sad but true.......they can sell all they get ahold of....I really doubt they would risk their good name to make windfall profit.

you would be wrong then. cheaper than dirt did the same thing the last ammo shortage. they hiked up their prices much more than other major retailers.

Reminds me of the Gun Broker auctions with, shall we say, optimistic Buy-It-Now prices!

P.T. Barnum was right!

They've been raping gun owners for so long that they have no good name.

I bought three rifles and several thousand rounds of ammo from them in the year before Sandy Hook. Now their e-mails are deleted unopened and their catalogues go directly into the recycle bin without ever entering my house.

I'm guessing you don't know them very well, their name is dirt...

They have been at this gouging thing since the Clinton ban way back in the 90's and they haven't changes a bit. It's been a very long time since they have seen one red cent from me and hell will freeze over before that changes.

If memory serves me, at the beginning of all this CTD's website suddenly showed all firearms related items out of stock. Next morning every thing was back in stock but with the super high prices. A small price jump as new items came in would not have really bothered me, but a couple 100% overnite?

I would love to see their sales stats. Whos buying what and how much?!?!?! I just cant imagine too many people jumping on these prices

Their "good name", hahaha, nice one!. On Dec. 17, 3 days after the Newtown shooting they had already raised the price on Ruger Bx25 magazines to 79.99. A month ago the price of Tula Ammo in 9mm was $69.99 on their web site. They are one of the worst gougers out there, and have been since the start of this thing. There have been multiple posts on here, and other gun forums discussing this fact.

This just in: Cheaper Than Dirt changes business name to "More Expensive Than Gold". News at eleven. :)

The cost of goods increase has been 10 to 20 percent, not 200 to 300 percent

On December 15th, the day after the tragedy, CTD instantly started showing ammo as out of stock, then re-posting it as in stock the next day at over double the price. Same thing with guns and magazines. CTD helps create the mass panic and price gouging. You didn't see Bud's, Graf's, Natchez, Powder Valley, SG Ammo, Target Sports or Midway instantly double all their prices.

Yes, we know, for the umpteen time, yes, the market is crazy. That said, I would not be too quick to condemn anyone for a high selling price at this point in time. No one knows the wholesale/jobber atmosphere any of these suppliers are facing. I do have a problem with the online companies that have what appears to be "reasonable" priced ammo only to find that regardless of quantity, doubles in price when shipping and "handling" is factored in at time of checkout.

I remember back when Smith introduced the Model 66. They were scarce as hen's teeth in retail environments but we had one in our show case that was priced at three times the MSRP even though the sale price reflected our standard markup. (Anyone who has ever run a small gun shop knows you can't keep the lights on with the markups on guns. Ammo and accessories is what keeps the doors open) We would continually have people come in and while standing there handling our model 66, complain of the price, stating that our chief competitor was selling them at something near MSRP, and we're taking $50 deposits to get on the waiting list. We finally got a buyer who did not care how much it cost but, then it was almost two years before we were able to replace it at any cost.

Now who in your opinion was taking advantage of the customer?

I knew they were greedy swine, but I didn't know that.

I've never tried buying ammo from them--just a couple of milsurp-clone musette bags and piddly stuff like that.

Now I won't even do that. They know the SOP if they can't take a joke.

Today I saw a box of only 20rds and they are asking $89
Are you kidding me?! Anybody pays $89 for a lousy 20rds needs to have their head checked!

The price of dirt has apparently increased quite a bit.

Perhaps they should rename their business to "Cheaper than Gold."

:)

It is not pure greed, it is temporary genius.

If you were grilling some Bubba Burgers and someone ran up to you and offered you $20 for a burger RIGHT NOW... what would you do? Mind you, they are insistent on giving you the money. And there is a person behind them running up, shouting they will give you $20 bucks for a burger, too....

I don't agree with their practices, but consider that not many people complain about the profit margins of Apple....or the jeans companies that charge $100 for a $10 pair of jeans...

Prices are insane, but the world in which we are living has gone topsy turvy, and I personally expect to see a federal ban of some sort by the end of next week. Permanent, and with heinous restrictions on online purchasing.

I had some fun messing with them today -- called them, they quoted
$69 a box for the 9 mm I inquired about,(which really aggravated me), asked to speak to a supervisor, I told him that it was worth at least $100 a box and I wanted to buy every box they had, but only if they would sell me at least 1000 boxes, he wanted a number to call me back, gave him a 900 number for a "sexy talk" service, (I would have loved to have heard that conversation) -- thanked him and told him I'd await his call. I'd rather stand in line in Wal-Mart for a day than buy ammo from them at that price.

Well, CTD evidently thinks they've achieved the alchemist's dream, turning lead into gold!

The question is: Will anybody believe them? I suspect they will find at least a few fools willing to play the game.

Now some local areas have laws against price gouging and "windfall profit taking" when applied to things like gasoline or groceries in the face of supply hiccups or natural disasters. I wonder if any of these might apply? Ammo is certainly a "necessity" if you are a security or law enforcement customer...

Well here you can't legally gouge on events tickets (but there are plenty of ways to circumvent that law by selling packages) and can't raise your prices in the time of an emergency. Don't think the ammo "shortage" qualifies as an emergency. Aside from that, I can sell any legal product or service for what ever I wish if I can find a taker.
