Obviously im pretty new around here but only got my M&P 9 a few weeks ago and have had no issues with rattling, call them back and talk to someone else, when i got my first credit card way back my first call was only approved for $500 and i declined the offer, called back the next day and was $1000 haha... Just chat with someone else & they will satisfy

Man some of you guys are ........ As far as me being ungrateful you don't know my life,or anything else so think what you may but opinions are like something and everybody has one. Customer service told me I could send it in and they would tag it non defective and send it back. As far as taking it back all sales are final.
As far as accuracy I'll shoot it this weekend. Bottom line I expect a American company with the reputation of S&W to continually put out a quality product. I don't accept this pistol rattling like a bag of marbles a quality product. I may be new to this form but I am not new to firearms . I expect a little play but the slide should not have as much play as this m&p does.

I guess I don't follow on how they can tell you they'll mark it as non-defective if they haven't even seen it yet.

I can tell you I bought very recently a 15-22 that arrived with a big scratch on the outside of the barrel; sent it in; and they replaced the barrel - no questions asked. I'll be the first to admit that the scratch was completely cosmetic and had no bearing on the functionality. But being a stickler for getting what I paid for, thought it'd be worth it to send it in and see what they'd do for me.

I've talked to two different reps. Both told me the same thing.
They claim that it is due to tolerance differences between machines etc.
Both told me they would mail me a label I'd be out the gun for a couple weeks and they'd tag it non defective and send it back. So why would I want to go through the hassle of messing with it. My wife told me to sell it and buy a glock . Sounds like a good idea atleast I expect crappy c.s. From glock.

This thread has the same feel as the infamous "I guess I'm being snubbed on this forum" thread on the AK Files. If you're going to buy a Glock, make sure you pick up a used model made before 2009, (pre 2005 would be even better) the new stuff bites.

I'm a big fan of the Gen 4 Glocks. I can tell you my G19 Gen 4 is as solid as a rock!

I wasn't going to post again in this thread as it was already pretty entertaining. I'm very much a rookie on this forum, but I'm no newb when it comes to forums in general. This is to the OP...

The reason you're getting so many replies w/ a negative tone is entirely because of the way you wrote your original post. Remember, you're on a forum largely populated by people that like Smith & Wesson product. People that have overwhelmingly positive experiences w/ S&W CS. And like it or not, people that have a lot more time around here than you, me, and the next 10 guys put together.
You pretty much jump right in and start slamming the product and the company. You're just asking for people to not believe you, and question your problem pretty strongly. It's all about presentation, really. If you'd written a post w/ proper grammar, stated your problem while not throwing S&W under the bus, and asked nicely what people thought you can or should try...the results would have been night and day different. Remember...the members of this forum like S&W, it's not the "Rip on Smith & Wesson" forum. This response happens every day on every online forum...a low post count member will appear w/ some story that sounds rather unlikely if not down right outrageous to the more experienced members. This is followed by a distinct lack of understanding.
This forum in particular is very friendly. People get ripped to shreds every day on the forum I spend most of my time on...many times by me.

I truly think that if you'd constructed your post along the lines of "Hey guys, I got a new M&PXXX and the slide seems to be looser than other guns I own. I contacted S&W CS and they said it didn't sound like a problem, but they'd send a call tag and I could ship it back to them. What do you think?" you would have received a completely different response. There is a TON of experience and expertise on this forum. I'm learning new stuff every day. But...

The way you post will make a HUGE difference in the amount of that experience and expertise you'll be able to benefit from. If you really think your pistol has much more than average play, then by all means send it in. There is NO WAY that S&W got such a great reputation for customer service by slapping a return to owner/not defective tag on anything w/o even inspecting it. It's a firearm...they have to take any potential problem seriously.

One more thing...congratulations on having found such a wonderful wife, you're a lucky guy.

Maybe you are right either way I wasn't really trying to slam them but 500 and some change for in my opinion a defective product doesn't leave much of a favorable warm fuzzy feeling.
I own more then 1 S&W product as well as another M&P 9mm
My original one is my best shooting most reliable semi auto I own more then 10k rounds with not one issue.
From what I gather from the 2 S&W representatives was that this was a common complaint and that it wasn't of concern. I happen to believe otherwise.
Believe it or not I do have better things to do then post made up problems with a product on an internet forum.

Seems like we get an awful lot of complaints from low count posters about quality control and few from old hands.

I've got a WWII 1911 that rattles like rocks in a can and I'd still bet my life on it. The OP needs to shoot his M&P first. They need some slack to shoot.

All apologies sir, I didn't realize that we low count posters were such a nuisance. Just to clarify a bit though I did say my slide was really tight which is true it's very tight but like I also said I haven't put any rounds through it yet, I wasn't commenting on QC I was commenting on the fact that I haven't had a chance to fire it yet and I believe that is why it's so tight, it hasn't had a chance to be loosened yet. Also this is my first s&w weapon and only really started looking through the s&w forums upon the purchase of this handgun which is the reason I have such a low post count. I am enjoying reading through these forums because there are a lot of knowledgable and experienced users here, I'm here to learn all I can about s&w. A person can't just join a forum and automatically have over 1,000 posts it takes time, and till I become more familiar with my new firearm and this forum my post count may be limited because my knowledge of the subject is limited but like I say I'm here to learn some things hopefully some day I can be considered an old hand around here, till then how about some slack for the new guys, please.
