I've talked to two different reps. Both told me the same thing.
They claim that it is due to tolerance differences between machines etc.
Both told me they would mail me a label I'd be out the gun for a couple weeks and they'd tag it non defective and send it back. So why would I want to go through the hassle of messing with it. My wife told me to sell it and buy a glock . Sounds like a good idea atleast I expect crappy c.s. From glock.
I wasn't going to post again in this thread as it was already pretty entertaining. I'm very much a rookie on this forum, but I'm no newb when it comes to forums in general. This is to the OP...
The reason you're getting so many replies w/ a negative tone is entirely because of the way you wrote your original post. Remember, you're on a forum largely populated by people that like Smith & Wesson product. People that have overwhelmingly positive experiences w/ S&W CS. And like it or not, people that have a lot more time around here than you, me, and the next 10 guys put together.
You pretty much jump right in and start slamming the product and the company. You're just asking for people to not believe you, and question your problem pretty strongly. It's all about presentation, really. If you'd written a post w/ proper grammar, stated your problem while not throwing S&W under the bus, and asked nicely what people thought you can or should try...the results would have been night and day different. Remember...the members of this forum like S&W, it's not the "Rip on Smith & Wesson" forum. This response happens every day on every online forum...a low post count member will appear w/ some story that sounds rather unlikely if not down right outrageous to the more experienced members. This is followed by a distinct lack of understanding.
This forum in particular is very friendly. People get ripped to shreds every day on the forum I spend most of my time on...many times by me.
I truly think that if you'd constructed your post along the lines of "Hey guys, I got a new M&PXXX and the slide seems to be looser than other guns I own. I contacted S&W CS and they said it didn't sound like a problem, but they'd send a call tag and I could ship it back to them. What do you think?" you would have received a completely different response. There is a TON of experience and expertise on this forum. I'm learning new stuff every day. But...
The way you post will make a HUGE difference in the amount of that experience and expertise you'll be able to benefit from. If you really think your pistol has much more than average play, then by all means send it in. There is NO WAY that S&W got such a great reputation for customer service by slapping a return to owner/not defective tag on anything w/o even inspecting it. It's a firearm...they have to take any potential problem seriously.
One more thing...congratulations on having found such a wonderful wife, you're a lucky guy.
