Grips with stainless steel or brass plates added at butt were popular with cops back in the wheel gun days. Supposedly to spare the wood from being damaged while carried in the holster some say they were also used to protect the revolver when used as a sap.

Ought to have some buyers out there if you are interested in selling. Think I saw an advertisement for those last year. or at least something like them.

I had a set about 10 years ago with the same marking but not engraved just stainless steel smooth base.

Saxon Pig is correct. "Butt Plates" were once very a popular adornment for LE wheel guns. Back in the 60's through the 80's a significant number of Houston Texas PD officers had their service revolvers dressed with a gold and silver butt plate. If I recall correctly a replica of the officers badge was centered and overlaid on an engraved silver plate with scrolls above & below with the officer name engraved on the scrolls. The plate was attached to the stocks with two screws either just above or below the top and bottom scrolls. Mounted on a pair of target stocks they were impressive. Most, if not all, were made by a silversmith company in Houston called Nelson Silvia. Officers cherished those butt plates more than probably anything else they owned. In the heat of battle some may have been used to subdue a combatant. However, unlike a five cell streamlight, nightstick or a slapper the butt plate would have left a very identifying mark. hardcase60
