Unique still exist?

Universal and Unique are near-equivalents. I have kept an 8-lb jug of Universal in reserve for a long time in the event Unique becomes unobtainable. But I still have 3 or 4 pounds of Unique. Same story in regard to Clays and Bullseye.

Years ago I switched from Unique to Winchester Super Field . It's a tad slower and load data is a little thin . I found that I could just use unique load data and sometimes add 1/2-1 gr more of powder , depending on my needs , case size etc . I have read that in 9mm using 147gr plated / jacketed bullets is the top contenders choice . For light loads or when shooting " The Specials " 38 , 44 , I prefer Winchester Super Target powder . It's my Bullseye / Titegroup powder replacement . Regards Paul

If the stuff like h335,4895,power pro varmint, 4227, and lil gun are showing up and hanging around somewhat, won't be too long before the shotgun powders like unique, red dot, etc will show up and hang around.

Something to mull over is unique, red dot, etc are used in stuff like 38 and 44, well, those cartridges are still real popular with reloaders because factory ammo is stupid expensive even when nothings really wrong. So, of course they'll take longer to hang around. Seems like unique is the handgun varget from what I see.

I'm more worried about powder than primers, but I'm nowhere near panicking about it, if that makes sense.

Long ago, I was working at a LGS that was the area Mecca for loading gear and supplies. The era was also at approximately the tail-end of Bullseye shooting popularity. Winchester's most popular shotshell powders then were the now-discontinued 452AA and 473AA.
I used a LOT of 452AA loading 12 ga. trap-skeet-bird loads.

The Bullseye guys picked using 452AA in .45 ACP but I don't recall seeing any printed data for it - but they loved it and reported it as very clean, and being a 'ball' powder, metered very well.

Those powders were later replaced by WSF and WST.

I still have quite a bit of the old 452AA stored - I need to do some research and use it up in some .38's and .45.

I do also still have at least a 3 lb can(metal) of 452 and used it in handguns way back when. It worked well in the 45 auto. Guess I ought to use it up rather than use my (limited) supply of231

While Unique is a good powder for a lot of calibers and bullet types and weights from light target to full loads.......

In my 38, 357 & 9mm loads, I use a lot of Alliant's Red & Green Dot powder for target and full loads
that gives me target loads with 25-45% of the powder that Unique takes
with as good or better accuracy.

My C9 3.5" 9mm with Green Dot makes a great NATO loading with plated 115 & 124 FMJ bullets and gets +P loads for my 38, J frame.....

I prefer to use Unique for full factory loads or +P, where it is at its best and use the faster powders for target loads.....
same with Universal, when I finished testing it out, in all of my weapons.
