Unusual Model 29-6

My LGS got a rather neat model 29-6 that I have never seen before. It looks like a classic but the barrel is inscribed Target Champion. they haven't priced it yet but I'm sure it will be over 1K. The revolver is in beautiful condition and I'm thinking about buying it. Any info on this model would be appreciated.

I can't tell you anything about it, in fact I thought there was no way it was factory. But here's a 9MM Target Champion with the same script:

According to that page, they were an early line of PC guns for the European market.

Hmmm, never seen or heard of this model. A good-looking gun though! I like a full underlug like that. The 686 has long been a huge favorite.

could be a German market model. I know of 29s that were made for a German distributor, there still is a "Target Champion" line with 686s and 629s. look inside the yoke, backside of cylinder and underside of the barrel if you find some proof marks (should all be the same)

TAI imports a lot of these. You can usually find their markings lasered in the ejector rod recess or where the crane meets the frame.

The 29-6 model ran from 93 thru 99 when the 29s were discontinued for awhile, so no lock. The lock appeared on the 29-8 several years later which was a commemorative model.

I had one in a 686 Model came with a target from the factory.

It was an accurate gun and I should have kept it. It was in the $800.00 range new. Sold it years later for $900.00.

The pistol was recently imported and there is a tiny German proof on the underside of the barrel. The shop priced it at $1195 so I have it put away for me. I don't think these are the correct grips which I'll be changing after I pick it up.

These proof marks are Belgian. The L with a bomb flame is the bank of Lieges. The underscored letter S is the year ( 1996) and the other letter I cannot read on my phone corresponds to the inspector . If you provide a sharp pic (or the letter) I can tell you even his name

I believe that your revolver would have originally came fitted with Hogue rubber finger groove grips either with "S&W" embossed in the rubber OR Hogue rubber finger groove grips with a silver medallion like my 29-5 has...

These grips are obviously not factory original but the look and feel so good I'm leaving them on the revolver. I don't know who made them but they are very high quality and supper tight.

These grips are Nill Griffe thumbrest , the ice on the cake. Nill is one of the best grip manufacturers

Thanks for that information, these grips are very comfortable and really compliment the revolver.
