UPDATE: COLT Customer Service is garbage...

Was it an AR or one of the several bolt-actions Colt has contracted other manufacturers (foreign and domestic) for over the past few decades?
If the former, I'd be a little puzzled that they had no record of something they made themselves. If the latter (e.g. Sauer, Cooper) it would be a little more understandable.

So Colt don't seem to know what guns they made as little as 30 years ago. Given their well known incompetent management, I'm hardly shocked.

Not surprising at all. Back in the 1980s, the authorities were turning up Detective Special revolvers on the street that, according to serial #s, had not left the plant...

Your customer service experience was better than mine. Years ago, I had a new Colt Mk. IV Series 70 Government Model Jammamatic - rarely would it get through a magazine of hardball without jamming. I tried different ammo, different magazines - it remained a jammamatic. It went back to Colt's warranty NON service repeatedly, and each time - it came back as a jammamatic. I've never bought another Colt since.

While I can't speak for now days, back a few years ago I drove up to Colt for some parts, springs and stuff & Colt treated me like I was a stock holder. Not only did they give me what I requested & free of charge, they threw in a free bag full of Colt goodies like pins, mugs, shot glasses, cards, pens etc. They also restaked the Plunger Tube back on my Gold Cup while I waited and it was free of charge as well. They also swapped out a set of Silver escutcheons for gold ones in a set of grips - again, free of charge!

Admittedly, that was a few years back but my experience has always been a good and I've got nothing bad to say.

I think the lack of a response to four emails is the garbage I was talking about. The CS reps I spoke to at least tried to help.

The way I see it, you are not the original buyer and I seriously wonder how you expect free service from a company that hasn't seen a dime from you.

Colt doesn't know that I am not the original buyer. And I am not asking for "free service." I'm asking them to look up a serial number for one of their products, which is a no questions asked "free service" with literally every other manufacturer out there.
