I should have done this a long time ago. I believe that this is a great resource. They found out that Beth has cirrhosis of the liver. She's not a drinker or overweight. Jimmy says he wishes that she was more coherent. Poor thing. I hope this is something that can be treated, but it sounds like it may require a transplant. The liver specialist is going to talk to them (him) today.

Allow me a rant out of frustration. This is the MUSC, the Medical University of SC, a highly respected institution. Like I mentioned before, Beth started getting treatments for liver stones earlier this year and it's taken this long to get a diagnosis of liver cirrhosis. There is something bad wrong here.

...at least six months ago, after a few months of 'diagnosing'. We thought that would help, but she's been in terrible shape ever since. It sure seems somebody would have been able to tell something from that surgery, but it's been a big mystery. I just found out that the liver specialist hasn't show up yet and it's going to take about a week for the biopsy to be analyzed. She's had bad edema and that can be caused by liver scarring, so it makes sense they they should have investigated this long ago, but she's been in and out of the hospital, more IN than out and then put in a 'rehab' facility to try to regain some of her strength and ended up back in ICU, and from there back to a hospital room.

I read up some today that beside hepatitis, some inherited and autoimmune diseases can cause liver damage. Wilson's, hemochromatotis, cholangitis and frightenly, cancer. There's even something called autoimmune hepatitis.

She's had all the symptoms. Terrible pain and continuous nausea where she couldn't even eat edema and weakness. Again, Jimmy had to install a lift to get her in and out of the house to get her to the dang hospital instead of calling EMS every time she goes back.

This really sounds like a case where the medical community has continuously dropped the ball.

I've thrown out a lot of emails, but this was from Jimmy in July. Like I said before she started going into the hospital EARLY IN THE YEAR. (paraphrase):

Beth still in the hospital. Physical Therapy is working with her. They got her out of bed to sit up . They keep saying they are going to run tests on her and then they don’t. This is really frustrating. It seems like the doctors are very indecisive. The goal is still to get her into rehab. For the last couple of months she has eaten next to nothing because of being nauseous. Hard to regain your strength without food.

When you can't do ANYTHING to help. Except hope and pray. Like i said I should have done this a long time ago, but we were expecting some sort of recovery. And between our situation and my BIL and his wife both being treated for cancer for a 50th anniversary present.....
