UPDATE! 9/20/2012
She was pregnant and she had her puppies today! :)
http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/269332-great-news-about-dog-we-took.html

We saw this dog out in the yard a couple days ago, and didn't think anything of it - we live in the country and it's not uncommon to have your neighbor's pets wander through.
She showed back up today, and has made NO signs of leaving. We think she had puppies recently, she is full of milk.
I took some pictures and went door-to-door, and nobody claimed her. We called the dog warden, and we agreed that it'd be risky to remove her in case her litter is nearby. We are not set up for a dog, so a neighbor brought some food down and we fed her. She obviously hadn't eaten much, because she wolfed down half the dish in seconds.
We tried to send her on her way, but she just hung around and didn't leave. I have a feeling that she is a drop-off and that her litter is.... elsewhere.
We have put her up for the night, and we will see what the morning brings. She is a sweet natured dog, and the thought of ill treatment toward her and her pups is infuriating. She has let the kids play with her, and she has obviously been a house dog.
It'll be interesting to see if we can find a rightful owner.
If not, I have a feeling she has found her new home... Time will tell.

A beautiful female Lab showed up at our place last year - we already had three large dogs, and I told my wife that there no way in heck that we were going to adopt another dog. I did my best to scare her away, she just wagged her tail. Then, that useless dog proceeded over to my John Deere Gator, hopped up in the front seat and looked like " OK, let's roll". Best dog I've ever been owned by.

She's a beautiful dog and I hope she does have her puppies nearby because that would be heartbreaking if not.

You just never know when a dog will enter your life. The fat old housedog here surprised us in March with two puppies. We did not even know she was pregnant until she started ripping up nesting material. I watched her give birth and immediately fell in love with the dark male. He's my boy now and he will cost me a fortune to bring back to the States, not even to mention the hassle of dealing with a dog and a crate by myself in addition to my luggage for the multi-legged journey back, but he's coming with me.

Dogs do that to you.

I was at my brother's house and a small dog showed up and was trying to get in their rabbit cages and was chasing their chickens. His son was going to take it a good distance away and let it go there to get it away from his animals. I told him that I would take it home with me. the dog had no collar and I thought that someone had just dumped it on the side of the road. When I got it home, I took it to the vet and it had heart worms. I spent the $400 plus to treat it and I have had it for several years now and it is the sweetest dog. It has bonded to my wife and when she sits on the couch to watch TV, it is attached to her hip.

I think that the dogs that pick you are the best!

I'll not go into the entire story, but will tell you about "Hoss" that I had to put down last year. He was the best dog I'll probably ever own(well, he really owned me). He chose me as much as I chose him. He wasn't happy with anyone trying to coax him to the front of his "cell". I walked up and seen a small pile that hadn't been cleaned up yet in one corner and him as far as he could get in the opposite corner. I told him he was a smart pooch. He looked at me and walked up to the front of the cell and smelled my hand. He looked at me again and wagged his tail. The young lady caring for him for two weeks said that is the ONLY time he came to the front of the cell for any person and told me "I think he found you." I sure miss him. You may have just been found.........:)

Well, this pooch is still here...
We put her up in the woodshed overnight with food and water.
My wife let her out this morning to see what she would do. She went out and went to the bathroom, then came right back to the door.
We let her into the house to see how she would act. She is laying on the floor at my feet and relaxing.
We are going to make up a couple fliers and post them in the post office and the local gas station and see if anybody claims her.

If nobody claims her, I think we have a dog.

You just never know....

God has put dogs on this earth to teach us loyalty, devotion, humility, strength and honor.

When you accept a dog into your life and they accept you, something very special happens. A dog well loved becomes so much more than 'just a dog', and a person loved by a dog becomes so much more human.

Well, it's gonna be kinda hard for her to leave, all tied up like that. Our little (feist) dog Jack showed up at our house about six years ago. We attempted to find his owner but was unsuccessful. He really looked bad, hungry and covered with parasites. We took him to the vet, cleaned him up and he has become the best friend I've ever had. Sometime the mutts are the best.

Sounds like you've got a wonderful new member of the family. I hope you will all enjoy each other! This sort of thing has a way of turning out well.

On Easter Sunday morning 2005 I was going out the door to conduct the community Sunrise Service. I heard a dog screaming (you couldn't call it whining) and darted around the side of the house to see a truck flying down the road and a puppy flopping around in the front yard. She got up and ran up under my car whimpering. It was months before we could calm her down to where she would not shake when we got close to her.

Later this morning I will take Molly (name given her by our daughters) out jogging. We usually go for an hour or so. She is a Heinz 57 pedigree... but mostly some sort of bird dog, virtually pure white with good instinct to point. She can cover over 10 miles without stopping (did that once on a bicycle just to see how far she'd go). She is pure death on squirrels and any sort of rodents that might come in the yard. And she sees to it that all the stray cats stay in good shape climbing trees.

She is a faithful companion. When we lived beside the church, she routinely followed me to the office during the week, waiting outside by the door till I came out. On Sunday mornings she would sit on the steps at the front door of the church. Church members routinely brought her little treats which she happily scarfed down.

If nobody claims her, I think we have a dog.

May God bless Hillbilly77 and his tribe for giving this needy dog a home. :)

Most of my dogs have come to me in similar circumstances. It makes my heart sick to see how some people treat dogs and think nothing of it. She's almost certainly a victim of being "treated like a dog," but she will repay you many times over with companionship and love for every dime you spend on her. I hope things work out for you folks. I'm sure they will.

:D
That chain was only to hold her until the dog warden showed up.
The rest of her stay has been of her own accord. :D

I would swear that if you came to my house, you'd think she'd been there since she was a pup.
I have posted some "Found" fliers, we'll see...

She is a sweet dog, though... :)
