>>Update in post 41<< Bad news from the vet today.

Great looking dog, hope the best for all of you involved. Last Thursday we put our dog to sleep, had a mouth growth and couldn't eat. Had 15 yrs with her, never thought it would be so hard when she left. Was hand feeding her 2 days and she couldn't eat it no more. Still too fresh, today will be a week. Larry

I can't believe this. I remember the long running thread about Annie (?), Duffer and the other puppies. I had just made the dreaded final trip to the vet with Snuggles (my avatar) on 4-27-2012. Your story about the new puppies so uplifted me.

I am very sorry. The girls will be devastated. Your family gave Duffer and Annie the best possible life an animal could have.

I have learned over the years that dogs are fine tuned machines, once they get out of sync, they usually go down fast. This is the hard part of owning a dog, I hope it all works out, but if not, be sure to let him go when it's time. He would not want you to be sad. I'm sure that he had a great life already.

Quoted for truth.

Most dogs do not seem to age in a linear fashion. They cruise along like puppies for a long time, then you start to notice a change, then they tend to deteriorate rapidly. -More so with the larger varieties.

And also a big "YES", your final duty to your friend is the most difficult part of your journey together. But you're the only one he can count on at that point.

So very sorry to hear this.

I clicked 'like' out of solidarity and support. What a wonderful friend and life you have had with him. My little girl (my only 'child') Lillibelle is the light of my life. These creatures are angles sent to bring so much love, grace and joy into our life.

My prayers and well wishes are with you, Duffer and family,

Roy

Beautiful dog. That is sad news, for sure.

We went through the same thing with our superdog Joe two years ago, and we had no alternative but to euthanize him when the pain became more than he, and we, could bear.

Pets will give us heart-wrenching sadness when they go or are about to. Still, we should be happy that they have been with us, no matter how short their allotted time. They give us great joy that is worth the pain when their time has come. Always treasure the memories - they will forever live in our hearts and minds.

I wish you the best, and hope the problem is solvable - my thoughts are with you.

John
