UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE

Just got off the phone with the S&W customer service (1/13/25) and they informed me that S&W determined the firearm to be unrepairable and will not fix it even if I paid for a new barrel. They claimed there may have been damage other than the barrel, but they were not able to tell me what other damage there may have been. Very disappointing.

If you come across anyone who may need spare parts for a S&W Response, send them my way!

Any idea where i can get a replacement barrel for a S&W Response?

I had a squib incident with mine which caused damage. I sent it to S&W for repair (was more than willing to pay for the repair). They had the firearm for almost 3 months, sent it back unrepaired with a reporting stating the damage and the cause. Which i already knew thus the reason i sent it in. I did call customer service and the customer service rep told me that S&W would not sell me a replacement barrel but I could contact Brownell's or Samson Firearms and they could help me out. Or, I could send it back to S&W for repair. Neither company had any idea why S&W would send me their way as they don't carry a replacement. I'm hoping there is a source on the open market I can try before sending it back to S&W for the 3rd time (1st time was for the BCG recall). Brownell's told me it is called a "Barrel Nut" style barrel as the barrel is threaded and when inserted from the back of the upper it is secured to the upper with the barrel nut by pulling the barrel tight against the upper vs a standard AR where the barrel is attached from the front of the upper and the barrel nut is threaded onto the upper.

Thanks all!

This is an odd and confusing story - especially why S&W returned it to you unrepaired to begin with - but in any event there's no factory parts for that firearm on the market.

Call S&W, tell them you want it repaired, and get a quote.

Had a similar experience recently with a model 37 that had a cracked frame. They told me they would replace it even though it was made before they warrantied them. They kept it 3 months without response then sent it back still broken with a sorry this isn’t covered letter. I called them back and they instantly sent another return label and sent me a 637-2 for free. I think you should call them back and try to send it back in. You might get a different response depending on who’s working that day.

Thanks everyone. As it stands I can't repair it myself so I don't loose anything by sending it back and waiting. They were closed today (probably this winter weather we're having down south) so i'll give them a call first thing Monday.

Cheers!

To bad s&w did not build this 9mm carbine like they did with there m&p 15 , That way normal AR9 parts could be used on it! To bad

I’m surprised too, that they would return a now defective gun back. What if you or someone else was injured during future use?
