Upgrades for Shield 9mm

I have used a bladetech klipit holster, I beleive thats what its called. Its cheap and does the trick. Im looking at getting an INCOG holster as I have been dying to try one and they look very comfortable. As for grip tapes I used Talon and have been very happy with them. They offer two types one like grip tape and the other is more rubber. I went with the rubber I believe and they are great.

items for my Shield

Having positive experience with Apex Tactical, I shortly after getting my Shield added the Apex sear which lowered the pull and smoothed it nicely. I also polished the sear block plunger. (Tough to remove!)

My EDC holster is a Galco KingTuk which is pretty nice. I find the pistol is extremely accurate at 50 yards. What a nice piece.

Thanks to the OP as well as to all the replies. This thread has been very helpful to me. I think I'll keep my precious Shield as is for a while longer before changing the stock trigger. I only wish the reset was a wee bit shorter. I've been spoiled rotten by my Sig 239 with the SRT! But for now the Shield has replaced it as my EDC!!

Regarding my post #51, I take back everything I said about the trigger. It's actually worse than a Glock trigger. Today I went to the range and shot 200 rounds (a rich variety of Freedom remans, WWB, and Remington (all 115gr). The Shield ate them without a hitch. So it runs just fine, as it has during my last range visit. The trigger, however, seemed Douglas fir. When I finally realized there's no reset (if there actually is I couldn't find it) and if I just put progressive pressure on the trigger until the Shield fired, I was able to keep 45 consecutive rounds in the black of a 5" circle at 15 yards. So it's a keeper.

Should I just get a trigger job from the local lgs gunsmith or order the Apex trigger? As I'm not mechanical I'd have to have the same gunsmith install it.

Watch one of the Apex Youtube videos to see how easy it is, then decide. You could definitely do the bottom end stuff, but if you don't want to mess with removing the rear sight, you may as well have a 'Smith do it.

You REALLY can't feel the reset on the Shield?

Robzguns: I'll watch the YouTube videos. Thanks for the tip.

Good point. Why can't I feel the reset? That got me to thinking. It's been years since I've owned a Glock and I probably forgot how to do it.
I'll go again first part of the week and figure it out.

I wondered the same thing and went back and forth for a while, and after talking to my range's S&W-certified gunsmith (and some of his satisfied customers who owned Shields)...decided to jave him do the trigger job. I am so glad I did: the trigger works extremely smoothly, the pull force was reduced from 7.5 down to 5; the reset is short, sweet and clear...and he did it all without replacing any stock parts. My own personal opinion after the trigger job was that I really wouldn't want my pull to be any less than it is now on my EDC.

His charge for the work (including polishing all mag upper ends and mounting my Truglo sights) was $110. IIRC, that was a bit less than the cost of the complete Apex kit, not including labor, if I decided not to do it myself.

Best of luck with your decision...I would recommend checking that your Smith is a S&W-certified GS though, just for remote but possible future liability and warranty concerns. It made me feel good about it.

If there's no SW certified gunsmith around you, get the APEX Duty/Carry Enhancement kit. I had the aluminum trigger installed with mine.
The travel/slack is about the same, but the break and reset feel like my Kimber Pro Carry II.

Thanks for your kind advice, deadbug and blackhorse. I think I'll take it to the GS (and ask if he's S&W certified).

And I used to own a Kimber Pro Carry II, so I know about its trigger.

(BTW, yesterday I also ran 100 rounds through my only other semi-auto - a Ruger SR1911, which hasn't been shot much since
I bought it new last winter - and the trigger smoothed out considerably).

Weird. With mine, there was a barely perceptible click followed by a slightly more pronounced click. Best described as a "double reset" and it drove me bonkers.
I'm normally a 1911 guy, so I'm spoiled by great triggers.
The Apex kit and trigger made the Shield a lot more tolerable.
Not quite my 5" PC or my Pro Carry II, but almost.

I have almost 10k through my Shield. The trigger is great now! Living in (for the moment) Kaliforniastan I decided against any mods to my CCW weapons. My Shield has been 100% reliable, and things have smoothed out great. I may do sights at some point but right now it just works. So well that I grabbed a few boxes of aluminum cased ammo for practice one day and the counter guy at my LGS argued that I would have problems. It ate every single one. OP I suggest running a couple thousand rounds through it to get it broke in and go from there for mods. You may decide, like I did, that it doesn't need anything done. Have fun on the range! :)

Haven't done anything to the internals except work em out by shooting and dry firing.
Externally, added Talon rubberized grips, Pearce mag extensions, and played around with colors on the factory sights.
My latest sight combo is blacked out rears and flo yellow front. I think I like this one the best, seems a lot brighter than the orange I was using, especially in lower light.

Blackhorse2010,

I found the reset. Duh. I hadn't shot a striker-fired gun in a few years and had forgotten about the reset.

Great! So how did you like it once you found it?
I use it nearly every shot I take with my Shield. At first I wasn't using it either.
