Today seems to be a good day for me, I got a 1948 vintage K-22. Then later today a friend brought this over and made me an offer I could not refuse. This complete was picked up off a "walk in" at a gun show. It is a US Navy marked Victory Model, marked US NAVY on the top strap, it is all mtaching right down to the grips. Serial number is V 179410. Also included was the holster, belt and Navy marked ammunition pouch. The holster is not marked. The pouch is US NAVY marked, but it seems strange in that it only holds 6 rounds. The other thing the same person brought over was an un numbered "Red Box" for an AIRWEIGHT CHIEF'S SPECIAL. I'd call it a pretty good day so far.

Gary,

Nice find! I wish friends would stop by with guns like this for me!

I think your fingers were a bit over-enthusiastic in typing the SN: there should be a maximum of six numerals. For the database, could you post the true SN and advise if there are also any "P" proofs, Ordnance 'flaming bomb' or other markings?

I corrected the serial number. It should be V 179410. There are no "P" proofs or flaming bombs

Very nice - I'm looking for one of those pouches, but to be offered the whole package is quite a find.

Do you know anything about the pouches? It seems like a bit of "overkill" just to hold 6 rounds

m1911,

Nice looking set up!

I'm kinda jealous of that 6 cartridge pouch! I don't know very much about them but I did see a photo of one listed in Charlie Pate's book, U.S. Handguns of World War II. Maybe it held tracer rounds?

I was in a shop today and went through a box of old ammo and just happened to come across another .38 special "tracer round" to add to my collection.

Yes, very nice set up. I have never seen a holster and ammo pouch like those. Very cool!

I just looked in Scott Meadows book about holsters and such and the exact holster and pouch are shown. There is no info as to who made the holster as they are un marked. There is some evidence that they were used by NAVY Shore Patrol

Gary,

Thanks for the SN/markings update. I have no info to add on the ammo pouch, but if that's the only one offered through Naval supply channels, I can understand why we see so many photos of pilots wearing shoulder holsters with jury-rigged ammo loops!

Steve
