USAF SPs on Kadena AB, Japan

I was in Vietnam in 1969 as a grunt in the 4th Division and we didn't get issued or carry pistols except for the Company Commander and he had a 1911 45. I loved reading this thread and enjoyed all the comments as we carried M-16's, 20 magazines of ammo, extra M-60 ammo, grenades, smoke grenades, water, C rations, some kind of knife (mine was a Marine Kabar) so a pistol was not our meal ticket or needed.

I am a huge fan of the Model 15 and the model 18 and I have one a P&R 15-4 and a P&R 18-3 and 18-4. I think they are perfectly balanced handguns and great shooters.

Thanks for your service to our country guys.

I didn't expect such response to this tread! Thank you every one of you vets who have shared here. It does my 63 year old heart good to see the photos and memories posted here. All those who visited the 'Rock' have a special place in my heart. After seeing the island in 67-68, I can't imagine what those who took it in WWII went through. I watched many leave the Kadena Terminal for SEA and wished them a safe return. I watched the SR71s leave on missions and return, B52s leave on bombing missions and KC135 on refueling missions. I stood guard over C130 and 141 aircraft with the bodies aboard of those who gave their all for our nation. I stood by as evac aircraft unloaded the wounded bound for the Army Hospital. I remember those boarding the freedom birds returning to the States, a myriad of expressions on their faces, from joy to sadness and everything in between. I am so proud to read your posts. Thank you gentlemen for you service and your sharing in that experience. May God richly bless all of you. And those out there who haven't posted, please do.

It's great to see so many Air Force guys on the forum. I was in the Air Police from 66 to 1970. I hated when they changes the name to Security Police. Did a tour at Kusan AFB, Korea and an exciting one at Tuy Hoa Republic of Viet Nam. Made it to Clark once and had such good memories of Angeles City I went back there a few years ago. Clark is now an international airport and Angeles City is still wonderful. I strongly recommend going back if you can, there are a huge number of expats living in Thailand and the Philippines. Makes you feel young again.

Mag, is that Malinta Tunnel in your avatar? Corregidor was something to see.

The wife keeps bugging me to return to the PI to see her family's plantation, they still own it. After 4 overseas tours I have no desire to ever set foot on another airplane.
