GT Distributors here in Austin, TX has approximately 6,000 used LEO handguns from Puerto Rico for sale. The variety of handguns available is very diverse ranging from .32 Colt revolvers, to Colt Cobra and Detective Specials (.38 Special), to S&W revolvers (Model 10, 64, and 65 with 4.0 inch barrels), 3rd Generation S&W semi-autos (Model 6906, 6946, 4506), Sigs, H&Ks, and (my favorite 4.0 inch barreled revolver), the Ruger Security Six - especially in stainless steel. The Ruger SS I purchased was $329.00 plus tax (8.25%). They were having a sale, so they took $20.00 off the price of their used handguns. This means this revolver, with tax, cost me around $353.00. I've been looking for an affordable Ruger Security Six for several years now, so I snatched this one up pretty quickly. I really wish I had more $ in my gun stash, but since I cannot buy them all, I thought I'd pass the word along to others.

Best of luck,

Dave

Do you know if they are going to post them on their website or are these guns exclusively in the Austin location? They have a store in Rossvile Ga. which would work for me.

Dang, I looked on their website and do not see anything. Appears to be either a in store only or they have not posted anything yet.

Can you find out if they are selling online?? All I saw was one Glock.

Good morning:

Several customers were complaining that the guns (handguns only, I'm told) were not advertised on their website. The clerk stated that some collectible guns would be sold at auction (Gunbroker?), and that the remainder would slowly make their way to the display cases in the stores.

Rule 3: thank you for reminding me about the Glocks. Indeed, I cannot overstate the diversity of handguns available. However, I should also mention the number of customers complaining about the condition of the finish of the non-stainless steel built handguns. One customer handed back a Sig to the clerk and was asking if any of the cops in Puerto Rico had ever heard of gun oil. The clerk responded that the Sig had a protective coating from the factory, but that the gun was not made of stainless steel, and that stainless did not mean rust free. He also pointed out that Puerto Rico is a tropical island surrounded by the ocean, and that some cops simply did not practice preventive maintenance of their equipment.

Another thing I'll remark on is the prices of the used handguns. In my opinion, GT Distributors does a good job of putting fair prices on their used guns. These guys want to sell their used guns, and they price them accordingly. I don't think these guys will dicker on the price of their used guns. Frankly, this is the first used gun I've bought from them, and I thought their price, even without the $20.00 sale discount was fair. Here are (to the best of my memory) the prices they were asking for some of the used handguns:

* Colt Agent: $450.00 (included a parkerized on @ $350.00)
* Colt Cobra: $350.00+ (included some in .32 caliber, and some with 3.0 inch barrels)
* Colt Detective Special (nickel): $350.00
* Ruger Speed Six, Security Six, GP-100: $329.00+ (barrel lengths: 2.75 inch, 4.0 inch, & 6.0 inch, a few blued steel, mostly stainless steel)
* S&W Model 64, 65 (4.0 inch barrel): $349.00
* S&W Model 6906, 6946: $250.00 (there were other 3rd Generation semi-autos available, including what I think was a 4506 - but I could not see the sales tags)
* S&W Model 10 (4.0 inch "pencil" barrel): $329.00

Again, other makes and models from other manufacturers (Glock, Sig, H&K) were available. All of the handguns I saw were "shooter grade". No boxes or documents, no tools, etc. The clerk I spoke with said that the handguns had been visually checked, and the ones that were broken or needed repair were sent to their store in GA where gunsmithing was available.

Externally, my Ruger Security Six appeared clean. Some minor scuffing on the barrel and frame were evident, but it did not appear to be heavily used (the clerk allowed me to handle 3 of the available 4.0 inch barreled Security Sixes in the case, and I chose the best looking one (the Rogers grips were a plus, in my opinion). The Ruger website indicates my revolver (157 series) was made in 1982-1983. When I detailed stripped it, I doubt the previous owner had ever done a detailed cleaning...it was filthy, but thankfully, there was no rust.

I spent an hour in the store (they are busy, and the purchasing process could stand a lot of improvement), and I wish I could have spent twice that amount of time to handle and inspect more of the merchandise.

Best of luck,

Dave

Good price on a great pistol!

Let's just hope the P.R. police force isn't dumping their murder guns on the U.S. to get rid of evidence.

UPDATE: FYI - I just happened to look at the Buds Gun Shop website, and they have several 3rd Generation S&W semi-autos in 9mm caliber on sale (Model 59, 6906, etc.). I would guess they represent some of the Puerto Rico LEO trade ins:

For those of you who are out of range of the GT Distributor stores, maybe this would work for you?

Best of luck,

I picked up two from the Dallas GT location. I walked in and saw a guy handling a Lew Horton 2.5" 686.......as soon as he passed and set it down, I grabbed it. I also located a 3" model 10 square butt. I thought I won the lotto with the 686. Turns out, it was the model 10, AND is a good reason why these are not good "on-line buys".
Many of the guns are in poor shape, even by cop standards, having had minimal maintenance and care and then dumped in boxes for turn in sale.

My "Steal" 686 has a grip frame that is slightly bent forward that is really not something you would see if you were not looking for it. It is sort of "Bisleyish" and actually shoots great. It is going out to get some handmade G-10 grips, so it will be a sort of one of a kind neat gun, but not a steal. It will end up being a "car gun" or beater shooter.

The 3" model 10 had some discoloration on the topstrap and along the cylinder that was aligned under the top strap. Kind of ugly and if I had to guess, it was in a drawer in a holster and some soda, Hoppes, or something got spilled on it an was left, or it may have slid along a floor or something. Not rust, just a little ugly. When I got him and looked it over closely, it is essentially a "new" gun. If it had a box of ammo through it I would have been surprised. I have already been on the phone with Robar, and it will be getting NP3 Plus on the entire revolver as a re-finish and a stippled rear back strap. It will make a stellar shooter and should give several lifetimes of solid service. I will probably end up doing a magazine article on it when it is done, as I think it is the quintessential "KISS" home and personal protection revolver that would serve a majority of folks well for several generations.

I bought one. Good thing about Buds if you do not like it and do not transfer it you can send it back on their dime. So they say,:confused: I have not sent a gun back and only bought maybe 2 from them.
