USELESS - Self Service Machine at Post Office

Stores are trying to....

Stores are trying to funnel customers into the 'self checkout line'. I've tried using these things and all except once, I had to get help every time. One didn't have the instructions on the screen as to what to do next.

I don't know why they pay preachers in churches if all they need is to play a recording.

I think Japan may have it worse than we do, though. Everything is by some specialized vendor machine or robot.

You just need to practice, that's all.

Buy two or three items. Go through the self checkout line. Take the stuff to the car. Go back inside and repeat the process. Do this maybe ten times each time you go to the store. You'll soon get the hang of it.

While at the USPS I filled out mailing label and taped up a package planning to use the self help mailer . Screen showed out of service and then a bunch of people came in putting me back of the line

Another December battling the PO self service machine. I went on Wednesday, when the PO was closed for the funeral of the President, and the machine is working, but there are no flat rate boxes; the shelf was bare. Sigh.

So I went back the next day, and it's a madhouse due to the closed day and due to yankees returning for the winter and due to Christmas. So, they have boxes; I prepare the box, go to the machine and it says there is no such address. Now, I always check the address on line before I mail (and also get the -#### part of the zip code). So I get in line and wait ten minutes to get to a human. After shipping I tell the nice lady that the machine didn't recognize the address despite it being on the website. She say, "oh it doesn't work".

Sigh. You would think that the clerks would want the thing fixed so as to keep the angry people like me out of the line.

I would welcome automation in my local Post Office as the staff working there don't know their as@%$ from 3rd base!

So I was back at the PO today and tried the same thing and got the same result. This time I got back in line and someone walked out with me to the machine to see what it was doing. I typed in the street number then typed in the street name and the guy I'm with says, only type the first letter of the street name and it will list all addresses in that zip code with that number and first letter.

But if you type out the entire street name, it won't recognize it! I guess I'm getting old, but that seems really dumb to me, especially since there are no instructions that say otherwise. User error.

Consider all this a learning experience and enjoy the rest of your life.
