If you have a WWII military contract 1911A1 and want to know which magazines would be correct for a particular manufacturer. The manufacturer ID is stamped on the toe. .

I certainly like the post for the information but the comment on what’s correct for a 1911 of a particular 1911 is a bit too far.

The pistol manufacturer was contracted to deliver a complete, functioning pistol, which requires a magazine.

Consequently whatever magazine that was supplied would arguably be “correct” for the pistol. But that magazine and gun were unlikely to remain together past its initial entry and storage in an arms room where the pistols would be racked and the magazines kept in a box or barrel. What ended up in the gun when it left the arms room was luck of the draw.

From that perspective I don’t get hung up on “correct” magazines beyond significant differences like lanyard loops, two tone magazines and feed lip design, reflecting that both pistol and magazine were manufactured in the same era.

^^^^ Agree - I should have said the magazines that were supplied to the manufacturer and were shipped with the new pistol. Each pistol would have been shipped with two magazines in the box.
