I recently restarted my PayPal account, but had no financial information in it. I added my debit card, now do I have to add any other bank information in order to use the service?

Brian,

Did you read all of the small print that Pay Pal sent to you? Forget it!!!! Even Caj here would have a hard time reading the small print......https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full

I let my Pay Pal expire a few years back now...I'll be ****'** if I give them any of my financial information, so they can share it with others..(read the small print).

I live fairly close to one of the PayPal service centers, I went to their office one time to try and discuss their security in person...I couldn't even talk to someone in person...They had me talk to someone from the lobby phone....They didn't even have the courtesy to talk to me in person. (for their security reasons......B/S)

Could they guarantee that all of their employees were not some felon? NO...

They want all the information about me, but wouldn't say squat about them.

No thanks...Cash works fine, or I make a call or E:mail to who ever is selling what ever, and see if they will take payment other than PayPal...Most will...But if they say they'll only take PayPal, then I don't need it that bad.

With all the hacking you read about.....Not me......

Here's another little tid bit....If you do NEED/HAVE TO use PayPal. use your credit card to pay, not linked to you checking or debit account. If there is a problem between you and the seller, you can call the credit card company, and have the charges reversed....The reversed charges then will show up to PayPal, that the money was cancelled...That gets their attention..NOW....

But even that....I don't use PayPal for anything...Period.

So IMO, it's not just "Buyer Beware", It's also called...USER BEWARE.

I've never used PayPal for selling anything, only for buying things. It is linked to my primary credit card, so I never had to give PayPal any other information such as bank accounts. I often buy things online and that brings it down to a choice of giving some vendor, who I may have dealt with before or it might be the first time I am using them, either my credit card number or by using PayPal. PayPal seems the safer and more convenient method. And while I have read that they are anti-gun, I have never had a problem using PayPal to buy gun related products from various vendors.

The money you collect can stay in your paypal acct and can be spent from there. They only need your bank info if you want those funds transferred into a bank acct.

I was concerned about monthly bills linked to my bank acct and debit card use being hacked. I opened a second account at the same bank and leave only enough money in the original account to cover bills and debit card use. If you try this approach make sure overdrafts on first account won't automatically be covered by second account. Paypal works in a lot of stores I can afford like Walmart and Dollar stores. Credit cards are the Devils work. A lot of my neighbors are anti gun but we're still friendly.

Keep in mind if you use a debit care you do not have the protections you have with credit cards. Your checking account can be emptied by hackers if your debit card gets hacked, but your credit card you have no liability, the bank will credit any fraud charges, then issue you a new card.

I've been buying things from eBay for years and have been using PayPal for quite a long time with no trouble.
OTOH - I wouldn't even consider using a debit card with them unless it was tied to a bank account for nothing but PayPal. Otherwise use ONLY a credit card!

Get that debit card off your PayPal account!!!!!!! I use PayPal for eBay and it's linked to eBay account and CC.

I have an entirely separate bank account that is only used for PayPal transactions.

I buy and sell a lot of stuff on E Bay and have a bank account only for that. To avoid problems, I opened this account at a separate bank than my primary accounts. In dealing with PayPal and E Bay for over 10 years, I have never had any problems.

My Paypal account is tied to my American Express card. I've never had any problems, but if I do, American Express can and will deal with it.

I do the same. Keep only $100 or so in the bank account. About the same in PayPal. If anyone gets to it, they won't get much. I do most of my internet shopping using PayPal. I get the usual scammers messages regarding PayPal every time I use it. Ignoring them works for me. :)

A personal experience with Paypal. I bought some Swiss surplus from a fellow in Holland (who is reputable but only accepts P) . I used Amex credit card, and very soon got a call from Amex, asking whether I had flown from Barcelona to London last week....uh, NO! The charge was backed off, but I now follow a policy of masterful inactivity so far as Paypal is concerned.

After reading all of this, I just removed it.

I look on eBay once in awhile and all payments must be made using PayPal now, no one accepts any other style of payment. It's really frustrating, to be honest. I've missed out on some good stuff because of it.

I absolutely appreciate all the answers! [emoji4]
