I attended a local estate sale recently. I didn't know the gentleman that lived there but I wish I had. I deduced from various photos and other documents for sale that he was a retired USMC Gunny; apparently attended Boot in 1946 and served in the Korean Conflict. I purchased his dress belt, buckle, suspenders and Globe and Anchor hat insignia to save it from a kid who I suspect intended to use it as part of a Halloween costume. If you can give it a good home while honoring the marine who wore it proudly then throw your name into the hat. I'll pick the winner is a week or so.

I've got a Marine in mind. He's our school resource officer (aka Master Deputy) and works his butt off mentoring young men who can't seem to keep their pants pulled up and their behinds out of trouble. I know he'd display this karma proudly in his office.

Good for you .
This rings close to home as I did the same thing in an identical situation except that it was RCAF buttons and shoulder patches that I gave to one of my best friends as his father had been a Lancaster pilot .

I have an acquaintance who buys medals on auction sites and tries to reunite them with the families . If he can't put them with family he donates to the museum in the recipients home town .

What a classy thing to do. My SIL served 6 years in the Marines including a combat tour in Afghanistan. To say thanks I bought him a 1911 with rosewood USMC grips.

I still have dads old Dress Cover/Hat and a few of his things
from his Marine Corp days. He was in from 1955-1975
and retired a Master Gunnery Sargent.
RIP "Pops"...Still miss you to this day.

I salute you! Though I am USMC trained via AOCS (my first 18 weeks in the USN was under the watchful eye of a GySgt...I knew more about the Corps than the Nav), I was never a Marine. I know plenty though! But please don't include me...plenty folks here actually USMC.

I'm trying to give my stuff away (to a couple of museums) that is of significance. Don't want it all in a sale or on ebay. Sent away a 1915 Colt a few weeks ago to be part of an early LEO collection.
