I've been meaning to donate to the USO, and a mail solicitation I recieved last week reminded me to do so. I think it is a good organization. Our brave men and women overseas deserve anything we can send them. I'd like to remind some of you who've been putting it off like I have to send them a little something. Our military members have certainly earned it. For those of you who have donated; good going!

Out of the bazillion or solicitations I get, the USO always gets a donation.

They have been there for me more than once, either overseas getting stuck on the beach, or traveling and having somewhere to rest between flights.

See, now that is a handy reminder. The last time I donated was almost two years ago at the check-out at Bass Pro Shops.

Is Wayne Newton still the USO guy?

The USO is a fine organization. During the latter part of the Korean War we were visited by a small touring group from the USO. There were no big name stars but they put on a great show. The one thing I remember about the group is the older lady with a peg leg - she could really dance. If I remember correctly there were only 5 or 6 members and they didn't have stage hands, somebody to do the lighting or anything else - they were the whole show and it was freezing - they still had a great and very appreciative crowd.

The USO is on my (very) short list of groups to which I will donate. Like the NRA, though, they send a LOT of mail. When making my usual Christmas donation, I asked them to send me only one or two letters a year. So far, I've received none.

I won't forget to donate, though.
