The USPS strikes again. Right about the time they stop the Holiday Sur Charge the price of stamps goes up next month. The new FOREVER First Class Stamp will now be 63 cents...up from 60 cents. The other postage prices are also going up.
Ben Franklin is turning over in his grave. I do not believe that the current USPS is what Old Ben had in mind for a Postal System.

That is just one of many things that would give old Ben a serious attack of the vapors!

I used to buy a roll of stamps for the wife and I 3X a year when they were $40/100. Now a roll lasts 2 years. I could cut that down by 4 a month (just about all use) if'n I get "direct pay hookup" to our checking acct. I'd rather send the check Flintstone style. Joe

Thanks for the heads up the last increase caught us flat footed, we live on the route and the wife uses the orange envelope from the USPS and puts it in the mail box and the carrier returns it with the stamps. Jeff

I have plenty of forever stamps on hand. The USPS change that I don't like is the elimination of the regional rate priority shipping. Free boxes, ship at the 2# rate to wherever. I used a lot of those shipping eBay stuff and shipping handguns. Slightly smaller boxes than medium flat rate.

I did not even know that they went up to 60 cents. I still have a roll of 55 cent stamps. Guess I will buy a few rolls of 100. 60 to 63 cents is 5%. That makes it worth investing a couple hundred

USPS

I read in my stamp collectors magazine that some of the online stamps are
counterfeit. It is becoming a bigger problem for USPS. Willyboy

USPS financials

In 2022, the USPS had a net operating income of $78.5 billon and a net operating loss of $473 million.

It's also interesting that during 2022, USPS sales are declining on a fairly serious basis.

One has to wonder about the overall management of the USPS. The private carriers have to make a profit AND pay taxes, which the USPS does not have to do. The USPS SHOULD be under-cutting the price of all of the other shippers. As they say, "If you want to really screw it up, let the Government do it."

No one mails stuff any more. I have clients who read my proposals, which say to mail a check to the address in the letterhead, and they call to ask how they should pay me. Some of them expect to be able to digitally pay. Back when I offered Paypal, no one used it. Now they all want it.

"Ben Franklin is turning over in his grave."

I think that Mr. Franklin would be amazed that you could get a letter picked up at your home on the East coast, and delivered to an address on the West coast in a week or less for 63 cents.

Of course, I could be wrong. I used to know everything, but I'm younger than that now.

Neither did I. My wife bought a **** ton of forever stamps over a decade ago and I'm still working my way through those.

Still a good deal when you consider the alternatives for getting a letter to Hawaii.
