I had just ran some information on another thread related to VA Disability Base Access. I thought I would mention something that I learned the other day while making a booze run to the base liquor store. First off if you are not aware, VA disability members are now allowed to use base facilities. A few years ago I read about it on the VFW rag sheet. I decided it might be worth the effort and went out to Fairchild AFB to check it out. I filled out some paperwork, which was very minor, they took my VA disability card and driver's license, made copies and away I went. Since then I just show my pass, it gets scanned and I'm on my way. The other day I decided to make a run to get supplies for a drink I make up every Christmas time and give out as presents. I was a little fuzzy about how to get to the BX so I stopped at the main entrance welcome office. He told me they were out of maps and asked for my VA card. He told me it didn't register as being active. I told him I was just there a year ago. What I then remembered was that I had just got a new ID card this past October, they are only good for ten years at a go. The gent at the desk took my new card and ran that I and I am good to go for another 10 years. So my point is, you need to stay up to date on your entrance pass, when you get an updated VA card, visit the kind folks at the gate rather than getting sent back by the guard.
