Howdy,

Anyone live around or taken a vacation @ Albuquerque, NM ?
Just wondering what is there for kids and what's to do for adults.
We were thinking about the beach again, but a change of scenery might be nice.

I've been looking at the travel websites but sometimes they don't tell
all the facts so to speak.

Any thoughts opinions will be appreciated. Texan

I live about three hours away from ABQ, but I go there 3 or 4 times a month. You should definitely stop by Ron Peterson's guns on Central Ave. There is also a tram that takes you to the top of a nearby mountain that the kids would enjoy.

Albuquerque has several very nice museums...NM Museum of Natural History and Science, Albuquerque Museum of Art.

Also Santa Fe and Taos.

Was there last week and there was smoke in Albuquerque from the big Gila fire down in the SW part of the state.

We have a home in the mountains 3 1/2 hours away (Angelfire) --
great museums, and good jumping off spot to spend a day or two in the mountains in the Sante de Christo range (Southern rockies) in Anglefire, Red River, Taos (the Enchanted Circle) -- great hiking, horseback riding, trout fishing, Summerfest activities, including hot air balloon races/rides, lots of great art studios in Taos. Daytime temp today in Angelfire was a high of 75, low tonight is 36 -- will be that way the rest of the week. Even in July and August, it might get to 80-85 daytime, with only 30 % or less humidity; and drops to higgh 30's or low 40's at night.

Santa Fe is a must -- fantastic art scene (and lots of very good art, oil paintings, etc by artists who are up and coming that you can afford) --
Southwest Art is a very good magazine that showcases both established artists and those up and coming -- Western art, wildlife art, landscapes -- I promise you will find something that you like that is affordable for your budget and will showcase your home when you hang it on the wall. Then, there are the restaurants -- just an incredible take on SW cuisine. Drive thru the New Mexico Grasslands
national park/refuge areas and see the prairie as it was before the railroads -- herds of pronghorns, etc. One of my best friends took his wife and 2 sons on a 10 day vacation to New Mexico last summer at our urging and he said it was one of the best vacations they have had. You also might pick up a copy of New Mexico magazine and check out the summer calendar in it. Hope this helps.

ABQ has a nice zoo and a great little aquarium for a desert town. If your kids haven't been nose-to-nose with a 10-foot shark, don't miss it.

Great public shooting range (where they hold the NIPSC competitions) on the west side, right near the Petroglyph National Monument. I've lived here since '88 - PM me if you want my # for a phone call to go over what might interest you.

Hike up the LaLuz, walk across the ridge, take the tram back down then
get a taxi back over to the Luz parking lot. It was a great round trip for me 35 years ago.

Wife and I did the tram last September. Pretty neat ride, but was surprised to find it cooler than 32 degrees at altitude. Down below it was close to 90. This summer we may do the tram again with the kids when we're passing through.

And Ron Peterson's (always)!

I LOVE IT out there!

However ---
A bit west of ABQ my wife and I decided to go out into the desert a ways.
WRONG!!!
The sand fleas (?) did a number on us!
Their bites or stings were like wasp stings and created puss filled, itching, burning blisters that lasted for months.

Shorts and a T-shirt just don't get it in the desert!
