My wife has to go in tomorrow for an "Emergency Session", she has to counsel some poor soul that can't cope with not having a Valintine! So to inflict my retribution on a lying Ground Hog and a deceitful Cupid I think I'll load up a batch of 22 Hornet.

Anyone have other suggestions?

Solution to Groundhog Day

Get rid of the musk glands on the back area. Young ones are much better to eat than the old grizzled ones. A center shot with a 22-250 or Swift...just doesn't leave 'nuff to enjoy! I'm tired of winter...but it did get up over zero today

have been gettin brain freeze worse than DQ.

Will be doing some Valentine 9mm and 45 acp reloading trials
 
I just checked my stash of already loaded 22 Hornet: Somewhere around 400 to 500 rounds! 218 Bee:300 rounds! and 221 Fireball: 250 rounds! Not counting the 200 rounds of 22 BR, thousands of rounds of 223 Rem.

6mm PPC: 275 rounds and 6x284 Win: 350 rounds! 308 Match: 500 rounds. and 338 Lapua Mag: 200 rounds!

I think I'll load a few more Hornets, Barns 36gr Hornet Varmint Grenade over AA1680, Rem 6 1/2 primer and Nosler Brass (the best there is).

When I bought the farmhouse 41 years ago, the first "Whistle Pig" I killed was with a pre-WWI Champlain (Belgian) in 7mm Mauser with a 175 FMJ Nickel Plated RN also pre-WWI Remington ammo, it's what was with me when I pulled in. After that first shot, there was absolutely nothing on or in his mind!

They are getting pretty brazen here in Reno.

Two years ago, wy wife saw one sitting on top of our rod iron fence, where the brick post came up,
sunning itself at high noon, one day, only 35 paces from our back sliding door!!

It finally left when the dogs spotted it and did not come back.
Lots of large lots and farm type homes, near by, for them to roam.

Up in Canada, the natives eat porkupine, my father, found out.

I'll pass on both, thank you.
 
For small 22 CF rifles I have a 1958 Savage 340 22 Hornet and a 1999 Rugar No 1 in 218 Bee (neither one improved).
For small 22 CF hand cannons I have two T/C Contenders, one in 22 Hornet and one in 221 Fireball, both 10" Bull Barrels with 3x scopes, along with a 10" Octagon Fireball with iron sights.

All of these are good to 200 yards for Groundhogs! If it is bigger or further, I have plenty of "Booms Sticks", for out to 1000 yards.

It only got to 30 degrees F, no furry creatures to shoot today! :(

In the early part of this century My furthest shot on a Groundhog with any Hornet was at dad's farm. 225 yards with factory Hornady 35 grain V-Max. No expansion, just a hole through her spine, and a second to end her suffering!-Ivan

In the 80's, I picked up a box of Hornady V-Max 110 grain flat base. For long range they don't stabilize enough in my 308's, I use 155 grain Sierra Palma bullets at 2900 fps out past 1000+, they punch through without any dramatic expansion, but Chucks bleed out just the same!

At the time I was playing with the 110, there was no VMAX option.
They might have been out in 224 and 6mm.
Somewhere along the way, I started stepping back from most of the whizz bang super bullets for most things.
Why spend 35 cents a bullet where a 20 cent one will do. And why spend 20 cents where a 5 cent cast slug will do
At least, that's how I wrap my head around it these days. Most of my loading is determined by social media and other cross sections of society.
For every whackadoo unloading with an unhinged ranting meltdown. I load 20 rounds.
A few minutes scrolling through Facebook is often good for a hundred rounds or so. An economic element has been necessary to meet production goals... That and less time on Facebook ... Boy I'm not kidding, that can get expensive
 
I loaded 8 rounds of 30-30 with a .3 dipper of Bullseye (2.6g) and a 93g, 30 caliber Lyman WC, powder coated, to be ignited with a large pistol primer.
I'll shoot these out of my scoped, rifle barreled Contender as soon as the weather breaks.
If they shoot good I'll load a bunch of them.

Add a pot of Donut Shop coffee from Wally World, a half dozen Morning Glory muffins and put on Gordon Lightfoot while you reload. Caliber doesn’t matter!
How could life be better?
 
I'd go with "The Who", but "Talking Heads" would be nice in the mix too. Gorden is too somber for my daytime pleasure.

I have a rule while loading, No Food and only water through a straw. Keep possible lead contaminates down

Yeah, I could go with either of those but my second choice over Gordon would be The Crash Test Dummies.

Might be inclined to do something similar in it's litter-mate the 32 special.
try to find an accurate load in these parameters.
If I can get 200 yards out of it, even if it takes 6 to 8 weeks for delivery, that'll be a fine round for the range and other light work
