Valuation on Refinished Python

Today I came across a beautiful Colt Python 6" from about 1980 which has been refinished in Metaloy. Appearance is excellent. It shot like a dream. The price is about what I could pay for a brand new S&W PC in 357 Magnum (which is why I post here).

Question: What is a fair price for this revolver?

As a refinish, I would think the collectible value is destroyed.

As a shooter, it would be as good as any new production revolver (such as a S&W 627 or similar).

What considerations might I be missing here?

If you like it and want it, buy it. Nobody else pays your bills or makes your money.

JMO, but I'd have no issue giving $750 for it.

It is now a shooter, but make sure its tight with no timing or endshake issues. If OK $750-1000 is fair.

For a shooter I prefer a 686.I have had 2 Pythons and got rid of them both.Used the money to buy a 686 both times a 6" and a 4"with money left over.Pythons are highly over rated.Not to mention they are no longer in production so parts replacement if needed could be tough.Find a good used 686 with a hammer mounted firing pin and you will be good to go.

Thanks for the replies. After sleeping on it I think I am over Buck Fever and will go back to the original plan of a PC gun. The 627 or perhaps the TRR8.

I come to this question from a different point of view.
A shooter is just that, a gun with use that I can afford to make it mine.
A Python is never, ever Just a shooter--it is and will always be a "python".
Now, you may argue a new finish is not original to the gun--I think about it this way--who cares, if the finish is restored to a new completion. Cars can be repainted without loosing value and sometimes the repaint is better than the original and can improve value..Certainly to refinish anything, when there is something wrong or worn about the original finish restores value.
I am not talking about a Camo finish on a Python--I am talking about a real good reblueing---and---these can be had.
