I've got a pawn shop in my area that just got in a Model 66, pinned and recessed, with 2.5 barrel and target finger-groove grips. The gun also has a round butt. They haven't had a chance to price it yet so I was hoping to get an offer in to them before they decide to slap a high price tag on it. I asked about the SN and they gave me the production number on the yoke, so they may not know what they've got.

I know the no-dash, p&R 66s usually draw a bit of a premium, but what's a decent price that I can throw at them for the gun? And what is the gun actually worth? I would say condition is abot 95%.

Hi,

I would offer $350 knowing the pawn will want $400. If you and the pawn shop can settle on a in between price I feel you did well.

Good luck,
Howard

So you're thinking that a value of about $350 to $400 for the gun would be about right?

I know GB isn't the best way to get a temp on gun values, but it seems like dashed models that aren't p&r'ed are going for about $400 or so.

004.JPG Here is my pinned and recessed 66-1 with finger grooved round butt combat grips. I paid $525 for mine . Hope this helps. I dont think I paid too much for mine , and even if I did , I dont regret buying this gun at all. It is a real shooter. very pleased with mine.

I was at a gun show recently where one of the dealers paid 500 for a 66-1 with box and papers from a walk in individual. He turned around and sold the gun within 10 minutes for $575.

If you can get the Mod 66 for around 400 I think you will have done well and gotten a great gun also.

If you can get that with combats for $350.... grab it, IMO it's more like $450-$500.

Alright the $500 figures were more what I figured it might be worth. I'll swing by the shop on my lunch break and let them know I'd do $350 cash and see wha they say. The worst that can happen is they say no.

Also, the gun looks almost identical to the one that BentTwig posted a picture of. It's a really sharp looking gun! SN dates the gun to be 1975 production.

I must have waited too late. The shop had a price tag of $550. I said I'd do $500, but they passed. I'll have to do some more looking into the gun and possibly my gun fund to see if I can meet them in the middle or something. Thanks for the help with this though!

Gonna give it a try. We'll see how it goes...

If you snooze you lose!

I was looking at one about 9 months ago in a gun shop in southern Missouri. He wanted $550 and would not go down. I figured I would look at a few more things then try again before I left, but when I handed the gun back to the owner of the gun shop, the guy behind me said..." I'll take it"
Have not had a chance to buy a no-dash since.

I'd take it at 550, sell the combats for 75-100, and buy some nice magna's.

Around here any decent S&W 357 is a $400 to $450 revolver and one in great shape and a no dash Model 66 would be a $500 gun.

Guess they haven't heard of Gunbroker or the Internet in Ark. Seriously those amounts seem right for a typical revolver, not a no dash snub.

Wow! I read some of these "speculative" prices and wonder how people come to these conclusions.

Not that it has occurred on this thread but when I see people talking $350 or $400 for a plus 95% 2 1/2" no dash 66 I have to wonder where they're finding them. The 2 1/2" no dash or -1 66's are among the most sought after "modern" P&R S&W's anywhere...

I've gotta wonder if some of the price quotes often seen aren't being given by people seeking to buy one of these revolvers and using this method as a means to try to help reduce prices for themselves.

There just aren't enough of these revolvers around and available for anyone to make a consistent value assessment. I know because I'm looking for them all the time.

Anyone who finds an original and truly 95 to 100% 2 1/2 or 4" 66 no dash for $400 I'll buy it and pay them a finders fee to boot...

JMHO......

Well I went by the shop on Monday morning and they said they sold the gun that weekend. I'm kind of beating myself up about letting that one get away from me just to save a few dollars.

I checked GunBroker and there's only one other no-dash 66 listed and it has a "Buy Now" price of $925!

There's a couple 66-1s that are pinned and recessed on there though. How much difference is the dash 1 going to make in price, collectability, etc?

I recently bought a 4" 66 no dash for $650 + shipping w/ box/papers @ 98%. It was worth it as they are still cheaper than modern revolvers. Their value will only go up, It was a "no brainer" to get that no dash.:D
